Art Hostel's a lovely place to stay in Rio and the location's fantastic – 10 mins from Flamengo park and beach, with great views of Pao de Acucar and Corcorvado, 20 mins walk to Lapa. It's good value for money, and the vibe's cool – very bohemian, with lots of artists and musicians coming and going, and lots of locals meeting up there. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. The only thing that put a dampener - quite literally - on our stay was the damp in the room.

A new concept in travel and hospitality.
We frequently have students, artists, musicians, and many friends passing through here.
We have approximately 100 vacancies in total, as well as a large gallery, a multimedia room, massage/relaxation room and kitchen.
The hostel is a beautiful redeveloped old building from the end of the 19th Century, situated just over the road from the gardens of Catete Palace. We are only a 15 minute walk from the Arches of Lapa, Cinelandia and Flamengo, from where you can visit Sugar Loaf Mountains (Pao de Acucar) and Christ the Redeemer.
We are located just 100 metres from Catete Metro Station from where you can get to Ipanema, Copacabana and Leblon in 15 minutes.

It's good value for money, and the vibe's cool – very bohemian, with lots of artists and musicians coming and going, and lots of locals meeting up there. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. The only thing that put a dampener - quite literally - on our stay was the damp in the room. (We stayed in a twin room on the ground floor) After three nights of quite an overpowering smell of damp, we were ready to leave. That said, the place is spotless, the sheets daz white and the floor immaculate. It's a shame the room had damp... I'd recommend it if you were to stay just one or two nights. After that, it becomes a bit unbearable.

We stayed during Carnival, so everything is expensive, but that`s to be expected. It was clean and very funky and different, gret breakfasts, and they`re great at providing information about things going on in the city, even organizing outings! We had a blast.
Service 2 stars because
We arrived and were assigned a room which already had people in it...
If we had been dishonest we could easily have taken stuff from the room because the girl at the reception gave us the key and left us alone with it...The communication between the people at the reception isn't very efficient: we had to explain two times to two different people which part of the bill we had already paid and what was still payable. Again, if we hadn't been honest, we could easily have ripped them off.
Everything else we really enjoyed about ArtHostel, great location, very clean, reasonable prices and free internet. This is a place we'd go back to.

From Galeao International Airport:
We have pick up service from Galeao to Art Hostel. You can book it by email with us.
Taxi:
Taxis usually cost around $40 or R$50 dependant on traffic. Do not pay much more than this and advise the driver that is how much you expect to pay before the journey starts. It is fairly common for tourists to be ripped-off.
By Bus:
You can take the BUS to Santos Dumont Airport, It costs around R$4. Once you arrive there it's advisable to jump into a taxi to go the rest of the way. It should be a lot less - around R$15.00.
From The Main Bus Station
(Rodoviaria Novo Rio):
You can take BUS number 170/178 from in front of Bus Station, It costs just R$2,20 and ask the driver to stop at the corner of Rua do Catete and Silveira Martins. Walk 100 meters along Rua Silveira Martins to Art Hostel which is 135 number in that street. We have a bright red door so you can't miss us!
