My Daughter and I had a fantastic stay, we were well looked after by friendly and very helpful staff. The roof top bar is brilliant any time of day serving good food, hot & cold beverages, beer, cocktails etc.
The hostel is in an excellent location for access to the city and the buses if you wish to explore further afield.
Over all this hostel is better than many hotels I have stayed in and much better value. I would recommend it to any one of any age and will certainly return.

A Hidden Gem From Which to Explore China's Most Vibrant Coastal City
Built by German colonial settlers in 1904, Qingdao Observatory, the first contemporary observatory in China, is home of our youth hostel, which is perfectly situated in the center of the Observatory Park (Guanxiangshan Park) in the heart of Qingdao. It overlooks the Qingdao Bay, with splendid views over the sea and the metro skyline. Many heritage buildings lie around the Qingdao Observatory, a place to re-live history. The Hostel is in a superb location, not only for its city and ocean views, but also convenient access to all the attractions Qingdao has to offer.
Mamahuhu Lounge is located on the rooftop, the best spot to see the skyline. It's the place where our guests mingle and unwind with travellers from all over the world. Our rooftop venue offers a cozy and friendly atmosphere. We serve authentic western and local dishes at very reasonable prices. We are particularly proud of our coffee, try our 'Long Black'!
Free coupons are given to our guests, you may use it to get a famous Tsingtao beer or to redeem for food in our Mamahuhu lounge/cafe.
The main shopping destination is Zhongshan Road located 3 minutes walk from our hostel. Find us for the first time can be a bit hard, but we are a 'hidden gem' in the center of Qingdao, after you find the hostel in this beautiful park surranding us, you will love it!
Security: We installed the latest security technology including IC card locks for all rooms, and offer free lockers in the group dorm rooms. Staying with us is very safe.

The Hostel has been re-renovated in 2008, it is an incredible hostel in the historical building Old Observatory. We provide services and facilities including: kitchen, common room, laundry, 5 languages satellite TV, internet access, IDD + fax, railway and airport pickup (with appointment).

Directions
YHA Old Observatory is 40KM (25 Miles) away from Qingdao International Airport, about 2.5 KM (1.6 Miles) from Qingdao Railway Station. We are located in Guanxiang Shan Park, which is opposite to the Municipal Hospital of Qingdao. From the airport: take airport shuttle Line 2, and get off at the Maniciple Hospital (Shili Yiyuan), from the Railway Station: Take Buse No. 2 or 5, and get off at the Maniciple Hospital.
