Hostel Porto Yokohama

These reviews are based on what it is...a hostel for ~20 yen a night. I stayed here for 2 nights with a friend in a double room with bunk beds. We were given a sheet and towel for each night per person. The rooms are very small, but clean and adequate.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

These reviews are based on what it is...a hostel for ~20 yen a night. I stayed here for 2 nights with a friend in a double room with bunk beds. We were given a sheet and towel for each night per person. The rooms are very small, but clean and adequate. The staff was very nice! For breakfast we had coffee, orange juice, eggs, 2 warm rolls with jam, salad, and pears! Yum! Yes, you have to pay 100yen for 4 minutes of hot water in the shower. You can stop and start the water/time while putting shampoo in, etc. so it's really not bad.

Location: The street the hostel is on is dirty and out of the way, BUT it literally takes 5 mins to walk the larger main area near the JR station and Chinatown.

To JR station (Ishikawa-cho): Just walk straight for 5 mins and you'll run right into it!

To Chinatown: Walk past the JR station about 5 minutes. You can't miss the big archway entrance.

To Subway Station (Motomachi Chukagai): Walk all the way through Chinatown until you see a store called Chinatown 80 on your right and a Starbucks on your left. Walk to the signal and turn Right. There will be an entrance to the station. This is where we went to get the the main area: Ferris Wheel (cosmo world), World Porter's, and Red Brick Warehouse. For this area get off at Bashamichi station. I think it cost 180yen. From this station you can pretty much walk everywhere, Landmark Tower, etc.

This is excellent value - close to the train station, not far to walk to the other places in town like chinatown and the marina etc. The breakfast we got was really good - cooked on the spot for you when you arrived in the lounge area with lovely staff - fresh coffee, juice etc - the breakfast wasn't anything really elaborate but great to fill up on as part of your accommodation costs. The beds were super comfy - everything was really clean, they had a kitchen and one computer with 100 yen internet. My only gripe was the training of the staff (the staff who are there during the day) - we had a mix up with the laundry where a guy working there told us it was free - so we put our clothes in - unbeknown to us it was the hostel laundry (for towels/sheets etc), we weren't given towels or sheets when we checked in and weren't told much about anything really and then later kept getting told we were doing the wrong thing throughout our stay!! (Although they were very nice about it!) Worth the cash though and I'd go again know I know the rules etc
