This is a Trusted Review. Why?
Hotels in Sarajevo are surprisingly expensive. I was visiting for a week for the theatre festival but unlike last year when the festival booked me into a five-star hotel, this year I was paying myself and since I only needed a place to sleep, I went for the cheap option.
It was a good choice. A single room cost 15 euros a night without breakfast.

It was a good choice. A single room cost 15 euros a night without breakfast. It was clean, warm and had a private bathroom and toilet with bath and shower attachment which was for me better than most five-star hotels as I prefer a bath to a shower.
The room without breakfast was on what they call the 'hostel' rate, 'hotel' rate with breakfast is 25 euros but you can walk fice minutes down the hill and be in the heart of the old town where you can get the best coffee in the world, the local savoury pastry and a delicious sticky pastry so sweet your teeth will fall out for about 3 euros equivalent in the local currency and you won't need to eat until the evening.
it is slightly difficult to find the first time but it is close to the four-star Hotel Hayal just above the old town which may be how to ask for directions.
The staff are friendly and helpful and although the door is locked at nioght there is always someone at the desk even when I came in from an aftershow party at 4am.
Only warning, as at October 2009 they only accept Mastercard not Visa, but they said this would be changing.

Hotel is placed in the heart of old part of the city of Sarajevo, called Kovači.
We are particularly proud of its placing, which is only a few minutes of walk away, from Bačarija.
