This is a Trusted Review. Why?
Really friendly environment, clean, reasonably priced and close to the center. Only problem was the ventilation in the room, especially because it was a warm evening and there was no air circulation or even a fan. But on the whole a really nice place for a weekend and a really friendly and hospitable hostess. I would recommend it.

Ecohostel Andromeda is an ecological hostel on a barge in Ghent. 'Eco' refers to the underlying ideas of the hostel, both ecological and economical. Ecological because the construction is a low-energy concept, the interior and energy supply is approached in an ecological way and the FREE breakfast is organic/fair trade. Economic because we try to offer a low-budget accommodation, without compromising comfort.
Our ship lies along the Bargiekaai 35, at 10 minutes walking from the center, a stroll that brings you along the beguinage, Prinsenhof and Gravensteen!
Our ecological and fairtrade breakfast is included in the on-line room rate.

Arrived at 11pm after getting taxi from station. A very friendly welcome. there are 3, 6 bed dorms, the beds are very cosy and plenty of room for all your stuff. also chairs and table in room. Was asked if I would like breakfast next morning and at what time. Breakfast was lovely selection of fresh rolls and ham and cheese. plenty of coffee. in the guest book I wrote "who wants to stay in a 5star hotel when you can stay in a 5star hostel" When I go to Ghent again will be staying at the Andromeda. I was surprised at all the over 40s that stayed. the barge was very quiet and no rowdies. A great idea they had was to have chalk in the loos so could write message on door (eco friendly) I stayed 5 nights before went on to Brussels would have stayed longer if possible. Good luck to them, it took 2 years of hard work to get the barge up and running.

There are plenty of buses and trams from and to the center. You can get more information or buy tickets in the shop at Korenmarkt / Sint-Pieters or at www.delijn.be.
Tram 1 (Flanders Expo - Wondelgem / Evergem) brings you from the St Pieters station or center (Korenmarkt, Gravensteen) to approximately 300 meters from the hostel (stop 'Witte Kaproenenplein'). Cross the tramtracks and take a little street (Alois Joosstraat) ahead of you untill you reach the water (Brugse Vaart).
!!!!!!! For the moment this is not the tram line to take from the station to here, due to works in the city center the tram only goes halfway. Only take this tram to come from the center to here; coming from the station take tram 4 !!!!!!!!
Tram 4 (Gent Sint-Pieters - Moscou): brings you from the St Pieters station to approximately 600 meters from the hostel (stop 'Brugse Poort'). Cross the tramtracks and the street, and go straight on for some 200 meters (Noordstraat). Just before the bridge, take the street on your right, along the water. This is the Bargiekaai!
