About J-Hoppers Hida Takayama Guesthouse

We are the 5th J-Hoppers Hostel located around 3 minute walk from Takayama Station. The building used to be a Japanese style ryokan and many of the guest rooms are traditional tatami rooms.
The big appeal of the hostel is personal spaces in dorm rooms. It is about 40% more than an ordinary dorm bed. You can always keep your luggage at hand even you are on the top bunk.
Most private rooms are Japanese style and also larger than normal hostel private rooms. You can enjoy traditional Japanese tatami mats, shoji paper windows and fusuma closets.
We are not only close to the station but also close to major tourist places. Takayama Jinya (Historical government office) and Furui Machinami (Old alley) are a stone's throw from the hostel.

A good location with very friendly staff. The notice board in the lobby was very informative ensuring we made the most of our stay.
They only downside to our stay was that our ensuite toliet spelt awful. It was much worse than public toilets in Japan! It was clean but just had that ingrained odour.
I recommend the place and our Tatami ensuite family room was good.
After a very enjoyable stay at J-Hoppers Hiroshima we decided to try J-Hoppers Takayama. We found the staff at this hostel just as helpful and friendly as those at Hiroshima. It seems the staff are carefully selected for being tuned into other travellers needs - even those of us who are a bit older! Our double room was very nice, the bathrooms were clean and the kitchen was functional and well-equipped. Highly recommended.

When you go out of the main exit of Takayama Station, please walk to the right (south). And turn left at 'Takayama Sta. S' crossing. Then you walk to the post office. J-Ho
ppers is just in front of the post office. Very easy.
