We have just returned from 4 nights at this lovely riad. As many of the other reviews state the Dar Baraka Karam was a very welcome oasis of calm and relaxation following the hussle and bussle of Marrakesh.
We were very impressed with the riad, the rooms and seating areas were lovely, it was possible to feel as if we were the only visitors staying there as there were so many nooks and crannies to relax in. Our favourite place being the roof terrace. The bedrooms were situated around internal courtyards which housed small fountains and seating areas. There were also fresh roses dotted around the place which was lovely to see and complimented the decor well.
Our room was very comfortable, and as many reviewers have suggested the showers were hot and water supply plentiful.
Breakfast was very good, and was taken on the roof terrace. Most mornings it consisted of freshly squeezed juice, bread, pancakes, an egg and coffee or tea. We certainly felt well set-up for the day ahead. The staff were also very accommodating when we requested an early breakfast.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Our only niggle was that we had a room next to the kitchen which was often quite noisy so if we were to visit again we would request a different room.
One or two reviewers have suggested it would have been nice to have had access to drinks or the kitchen. While not a major issue as you don't have to go far to buy bottled water etc, we agree it would have been a nice touch.
As the riad is tucked away down an alleyway it would be helpful if the riad could produce a clearer location map for the property. We would suggest that if this is your first visit that you ask a local to direct you - which they are more than happy to do....just make sure you have a few spare coins in your pocket first! It doesn't take long to get your bearings and once you do you will find it's actually quite easy to get about.
Overall, a great riad and we'd certainly go back or recommend.
This is a Trusted Review. Why?
We stayed in Dar Karam - one of the two riads which interconnect - and it was possibly one of the loveliest places we have ever stayed in. The house was exquisite with beautiful details, for example we would wake to find the courtyard fountain was turned on and strewn with yellow rose petals, or return weary at night to find the gorgeous lanterns lit and incense burning.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly Rachid who gave us lots of advice and information, and the rooftop breakfasts with freshly squeezed juice and a selection of bread and fruit jams were delicious.
The views from the rooftop terrace are magical and it was an incredibly tranquil place to be and yet situated right in the heart of Marrakesh.
There was abundant hot water and an enormous bath with a very powerful shower.
The only extra thing we would have appreciated was access to the kitchen to make our own drinks occasionally as we didn't like to put upon the very obliging staff at all hours.
Overall it was a wonderful place to stay.
