TIU KievBackpackers is an English, German and Ukrainian owned and operated hostel in the city center of Kiev, 'und natürlich sprechen wir perfekt Deutsch'! (We speak perfect German!)
TIU Hostels are the original chain of the Ukrainian and Western owned backpacker hostels here in Ukraine - this means you are getting a friendly Ukrainian hospitality and Western management standards. Giving a high standard of hostels to all our guests is our top priority - and we cannot and will not be beaten on price or standards.
The TIU KievBackpackers has one dorm and one private room available.
In the dorm room you will find 5 compfortable wood bunk beds, and one metal bunk bed (our cheapest offer).
The huge private room comes with a huge and real comfortable double bed.
Bed sheets, linen and towels are provided for free and all rooms come with security lockers. The bathroom has 24h hot water, and we are the only hostel in Kiev with a traditional Ukrainian sauna.
The Vokzal'na metro station is 100 meters to the left from the train station main entrance. Walk in there, buy a token per person, go down the escalator and take the right-hand train direction. Go to the 3rd station from Vokzal'na - the Kreschatik station (that is pass the Universitet station, then Teatral'na and finally step off on the Kreschatik). Once on the Kreschatik station, change the line to the Maidan Nezalezhnosti station and take a train to the Lva Tolstogo station (it is just one station away). Go out from metro to the McDonald's, turn to the left around the corner, walk about 60 meters straight ahead, you will pass by an arch on the left hand side, and after that take the next turn to the left. There will be a solarium on the left hand side and a bar 'Korol' Kapusta' on the right hand side. Walk about 10 meters forward and watch for the first brown door on your right hand side. The code on the door is 237 (all buttons pressed at the same time). We are on the fourth floor, apt 15 with the hostelworld.com sign on the door - welcome!
Customers can cancel their reservation free of charge up to 2 Days before arrival. After this date, charges will be applied by the property up to the full cost of the reservation. Deposits paid are non refundable.
This is a Trusted Review. Why?
This hostel isdifficult to find as it's not well sign posted and you need to know the door code to get inside, otherwise you could find yourself stuck on the street.
On first impressions I noticed straight away that it's rather untidy and dirty. Although we had the one large private room, we still had to share the one bathroom and toilet with other guests who were staying in the dorm room next to us. The private room was big enough to have its own bathroom and if I owned the hostel I would put an ensuite in it, or at least another bathroom in between the private room and the dorm. It's certainly got the room and the demand for one.
I found the only bathroom to sometimes be rather disgusting, with hair and God knows what in there. The cleanliness of the place put me off so much that we didn't even bother using the kitchen or the common room as there was stuff everywhere.
I realise that this is a budget travellers gem compared to the extremely over-priced accommodation that can be found in Kiev, but I have to say that things could still be better as this place has lots of potential to provide a better experience for guests - especially those who are not Russian or Ukrainian.
