About Maison de Laura
Maison de Laura is a traditional long farmhouse built in 1876. The barn was once used to store and make wine but has since been converted into two individual Gites...Bed and breakfast guests stay in the main house in the charming bedroom with its antique bed. The room also has tea and coffee facilities and a small fridge. The private bathroom has a rolled top bath and hand held shower. Linen and fresh towels are supplied. All guests will find a warm welcome at Maison de Laura where we blend the luxury and comfort of a good bed and breakfast with the warm friendly and personal atmosphere only achieved in a family home. You have access to your room at all times and we are available most of the time should you need help or information.

Maison de Laura is situated in a valley 20 minutes north of Carcassonne in the foothills of Montagne Noire in the small village of Salsigne. There is a local shop selling most items including fresh bread and croissants. We are within walking distance of the Cathar castles of Lastours. The historic walled city of Carcassonne is 30 minutes drive away and 15 minutes to the canal du Midi where you can take a boat trip or simply walk along the canal banks.
In Carcassonne on a Saturday there is a market selling local produce and often live music playing which all adds to the atmosphere. It is ideal for walking holidays as we are in the heart of the countryside. .

I have to say having never stayed in a guest house before i didn't know quite what to expect, well i was very pleasantly surprised. The couple that run the place are british and are both welcoming and helpful. The property is well maintained, tastfully furnished and decorated. If its your first time visiting this area in france and you don't speak much french, you can't go far wrong staying here. Pauline and Wally know where to go and what to see. Maison de Laura is not too difficult to find from the airport, about 20mins drive. Both my partner and i enjoyed are stay very much.
We came across Maison de Laura on Travellerspoint at the last minute after missing out on accomodation in Avignon during festival time. We are so glad we did it has been the best accomodation we have stayed in in the past two months of travelling Asia and Europe. Pauline and Wally were fantastically hospitable and made us feel like we have known them before we got here. They picked us up from Carcassone and drove us back to have a look at the walled city. There acccomodation is set in a little village out of city of Carcassone (much nicer than staying within the city itself -best value for money in France too). It is very flexible, you can either have your meals cooked (for approx 5euro) or cook your own! You feel very at home here. We would definately come back here, it would be very affordable to come for a French holiday from NZ if we stayed for a week or more!! Thanks for a refreshing break.

Directions
From the A61 autoroute take the Carcassonne exit and follow the signs for Mazamet through the village of Villegailhenc and 4kms at the top of the hill turn right signposted Salsigne. This road winds down into the valley and into the village of Salsigne and Maison de Laura is on the left side of the wine cave co-operative
From Carcassonne airport out of the airport turn left down to the roundabout turn left follow the signs for mazamet and the rest is the same.
