Beijing Forbidden City Hostel

The hostel is not expensive. At first sight it may be considered not very comfortable (the bedrooms and bathrooms are small and there is no outside windows) but it is compensated by a very convinient location and the services provided inside the hostel.

The hostel is not expensive. At first sight it may be considered not very comfortable (the bedrooms and bathrooms are small and there is no outside windows) but it is compensated by a very convinient location and the services provided inside the hostel. For example, you can book train/air tickets or buy a trip to the Great Wall (or other destinations or an evening show). Plus, you can rent a bicycle here. Also, the cafe inside the hostel provides the best coffee in the district and serves very good european breakfast.
So, if I visit Beijing next time, I will most probably stay at Beijing Forbidden City Hostel.

I really enjoyed staying here as I got to meet lots of travellers like myself. My en-suite room was great - but had no windows haha. However, this wasnt so much of a bother to me as I was out all day and only used the place to sleep. There was always hot water and facilities were excellent. There is a good vibe to the place, and location was brilliant, with Wangfujing Road 5 mins walk and Tian'an Men Square & The Forbidden City less than 10 minutes walk away.

I also booked a Great Wall hike with the Hostel, and they offer many tours. The staff at the Hostel were extremely polite and friendly, as well as being a great help. There is a place to dine but its probably better to dine elsewhere as their prices were too dear for my liking.

If I ever return to Beijing again, I will probably stay here again. They offer many rooms at very comptetitive prices. Its a great place to meet like minded travellers also.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The hostel was overbooked, we were placed in a twin instead of our booked double. The room had mold. We had friends booking in the next day however because of the overbooking they had to go to another hostel, which the hostel said was close to ours however was not. Very poor service and unwilling to help. They also promise a pick up service, however there is no such service, also there is no wireless as promised. Overall not a pleasant place to stay.

Travellerspoint Response

We are sorry to hear that Beijing Forbidden City Hostel had allowed itself to become overbooked. All the properties listed on Travellerspoint set their own availability, so they are contractually obliged to honour the bookings made through our site. It is very disappointing to hear that the hostel was overbooked and couldn't accommodate you in the room you booked.

Regarding the Wifi and airport pick-up, the property manager has responded:

"I don't think it is true, we offer pick-up service and Wifi in the lobby and when we get your booking, I send an e-mail to the guest to inform them that we have pick-up service and reply us if they need. Every guest can get our pick-up service e-mail with their booking."
