If you would like to get out from the tourist district and see what current istanbul is like, then it is a perfect location. Very close to the main street and there were a lot of cheap restaurants nearby.

Thick soft towel, hot nice shower (we found other hostels in Turkey had really low "dripping like" water pressure of the shower; however, this hostel's shower felt more like what we are used to in Canada).

In the recent years guide books started writing more and more the names 'Beyoglu, Taksim, Nevizade' with the name 'night life, entertainment, culture, architecture, trendy'. That means the main attractions of the city changed and People of Istanbul have been hanging out around these neighbourhoods.

If you would like to get out from the tourist district and see what current istanbul is like, then it is a perfect location. Very close to the main street and there were a lot of cheap restaurants nearby.

Thick soft towel, hot nice shower (we found other hostels in Turkey had really low "dripping like" water pressure of the shower; however, this hostel's shower felt more like what we are used to in Canada).

The room (and the common area) was very cold so we basically had to hug the oil heater... Also I was bit surprised that we had to do the dishes after breakfast. (because the price of this hostel was significantly higher than what we payed for others in Turkey and they did not ask as to do the dishes.)

The staff was friendly but not that knowledgeable. My impression was that he was still new to the business, so it may improve as he gains more experiences.

To come to Taksim Sofa Hostel From Ataturk Airport, you may find your way to TAKSIM SQUARE (The most famous meeting place in Istanbul):

1) Take the Subway (METRO)from Ataturk Airport (The First Stop) to AKSARAY (Last Stop) (1.5 Lira = $1). When you come out of subway cross the main street towards the Tramline and:

1a) take the Tram from YUSUFPASA Tram Stop (1.5 Lira) to KABATAS (Last Stop) direction, then the FUNICULAR (1.5 Lira) (underground train) to Taksim Square

or

1b) take a Public Bus (1.5 Lira) nearby the YUSUFPASA Tram Stop to Taksim Square

2) Take HAVAS BUS from ANY AIRPORT* to Taksim Square

*remember that there are 2 airports in istanbul (sabiha gokcen airport on the asian side and ataturk airport on the europian side.

- Taxi costs 35 Liras from Ataturk and more than 60 Liras from Sabiha Gokcen

THEN;

Walk into the ISTIKLAL STREET (famous pedestrian street), turn to the 4th corner on the left (SADRI ALISIK SOKAK) walk 100 m down to the end of the street. just turn left and then take the first right. Sofa is the second building on the left with a big green grapevine.

#If you take taxi to come to hostel.. just take a print of the turkish text below and show it to the driver.. istanbul is a big and a complex city.. it is a little chance for you to catch a driver who really knows the streets of beyoğlu..
