The Patch Palace apartment house is a spacious (approx. 700 sq ft of living space, private deck and a common lawn), sunny (skylights, windows), modern, renovated and well equipped apartment near 5 acre patch of land that once housed the local paper factory. This quiet little historic neighborhood is called "The Patch" and was once populated with factory workers, close knit families and Italian immigrants.
We are within ten minutes walk through a nice bike path to vibrant Davis Square (Red Line Train Station) and 7.5 miles (17 minutes) drive from the Boston Logan Airport. Available as a short term lease rental, our modern style apartment with kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, in-unit laundry, hardwood floors and private parking facilities is a perfect place to live in a New England style home setting near safe, quiet yet one of the hippest neighborhood in US called Davis Square. Davis Square, in the city of Somerville, MA, is a quaint and thriving community made up of small, locally owned businesses, working professionals, long time locals, and Harvard, MIT and Tufts University students. Davis Square has been listed by the Utne Reader magazine as one of the fifteen 'hippest places to live' in the United States.
Davis Square is named for Person Davis (1819-1894), whose 10-acre (40,000 m2) estate included the present-day Davis Square. The brick-paved Davis Square contains a rich mixture of shops, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, a 1000 seat movie theater complex, a smaller 200 seat live performance theater, and other attractions. Earlier this March, 2009, the band U2 preferred to play at Somerville Theatre in Davis Sq. for an ultra-exclusive show as part of three "secret" U.S. concerts to promote new album and latest smash, "No Line on the Horizon."
Square itself is decorated with many colorful pieces of art, including tiles made by local schoolchildren, sculptures of prominent local figures, smiling sculptures and a flying cow. Davis Square hosts many popular arts institutions and events. The Somerville Arts Council's popular ArtBeat festival takes place here every year on the third weekend of July, while the HONK! Festival of activist brass bands occurs here every October, on Columbus Day weekend. The Public Radio International show, 'Living on Earth' is recorded in its local studios.
