About Posada del Abuelito

The freshly renovated Posada del Abuelito opened in 2009, offering travelers quiet, clean and safe accommodations just minutes from the heart of San Cristóbal. We strive to insure that your visit is as comfortable as possible and provide lots of little extras that we know travelers come to appreciate. A lovely colonial house situated in one of the oldest barrios of the city, Posada del Abuelito is a wonderfully friendly, cozy and charming posada with clean and comfortable rooms, furnished in rustic Mexican style.

The friendly, multilingual staff is on site 24 hours per day and always happy to assist with tourist information, tour and transport bookings and lots of helpful advice! We have a variety of tours including an expedition to a local coffee plantation, horseback-riding, rock-climbing trips, hiking, visits to the local Amber mines, culturally responsible visits to local Indigenous villages and more! We also offer on-site TAROT readings and MASSAGE.

Facilities include: an immaculate 9 bed dormitory, private rooms with shared bath and private rooms with en-suite bath. Guests enjoy the use of a clean, community kitchen, warm fireplace and HOT water 24 hours per day. All rooms are equipped with electrical outlets, bath towels, extra blankets and hangers. There are several places to sit, relax and enjoy our beautiful patio and small garden. Guests are welcome to spend the chilly nights in front of the fire in our shared TV room -- where they can watch movies, roast marshmallows, use the computer or just hang out and make new friends. In addition, we have our own filtered water tanks, so when the rest of San Cristobal runs out, we are still taking long, hot showers!

We offer a complimentary breakfast of fresh bagels or pan dulce, jam, butter, coffee, tea and fruit. Other amenities include FREE internet and Wi-Fi, FREE purified drinking water, FREE luggage storage, FREE lockers in the dorms and on-site laundry facilities.

Don't forget warm clothes. Please note: Winter in San Cristobal is beautiful and sunny but can be chilly at night -- and most (if not all) of the homes do not have interior heating. We do provide plenty of blankets, hot coffee, tea and a cozy fire in our common room (great for toasting marshmallows!) But, during the months of Dec. thru Feb. we recommend that you pack warm clothes. But don't worry, If you don't have any, the local artisan market sells them for a very reasonable price!
