David's Boat offers two seperate rooms with both their own entrances on a classic antique houseboat.

the first room is called the 'roef'' and this is where the captain used to live in the olden days.

very unique antique classic riverschip interior and with total privacy .

the roef has It's own entrance.

both rooms have their own private shower and toilet.

both rooms have central heating witch will keep the rooms cosy and warm.

the second room is situated in another part of the schip 'the former cargo space'wich I have transformed into a very cosy and functional guestroom.

again with private shower and toilet.

the main entrance of the second room is shared.

the guest room is separated from my living quarters by a hall where your toilet and the main entrance is situated.

You will get your own set of keys so there is maximum freedom to enjoy your stay.

David's boat is close to the central station and is nearby public transportation lines witch will make it easy to reach the tourist hotspots (15 min.)

I offer guests the possability to rent bikes.

this will give you even more freedom when you want to explore our city.

I don't have any way to accept creditcards so payments must be made cash on arrival.

I offer a Wifi connection for those who want to bring their own laptop.

smoking is not allowed inside the rooms of David's boat but there is plenty of space on the boat's decks.

The overall ambiance is relaxed

Ideal for visitors who are looking for something different.

NOTICE! I found out that due to maintenance to my central heating system the radiators in the 'roef'room weren't funktioning propely.

therefore the room temperature just wasn't cosy.

I want to make clear that this has been corrected.

All the rooms have central heating and the temperature will be warm and cosy like before.

even when it's cold outside !

kind regards,

David

Our stay in David's boat was quite good, the room was small (we knew, it is a boat!) but really beautiful for a couple who desire to live a new, different and romantic experience. From there it was really easy to reach the city center by tram and also on foot. David's wifi allowed me to stay connected only for few minutes. Tea and coffee were available in the room with boiler and two cups! The bed was not really a double bed but more like one and a half. Furthermore remember that Netherland is a windy Coutry, the best time to visit it is probably in May or June.

A bit far from the center, but the experience worth it! Maybe not for everyone 'cause it's a bit small, but you have to remember that's in a boat! Nice tryp, thanks for everything David! Cheers!

Okay, well, first the good points. David himself was pleasant enough and kept the place scrupulously clean (I'm sure that a few much more expensive establishments could learn a thing or two from him). The bed (if not the bedding) was very comfortable, and the water was nice and hot, and the towels were lovely and soft. Also the location was very peaceful.
But, after having read the description again, and the accompanying reviews, we do wonder if they refer to the same place - maybe this is explained by the fact that all of them seem to have stayed in the captain’s cabin, whereas we were in the second room, the cargo hold! Even though the other room didn’t seem to have anyone staying in it, but we might be wrong about this.
It must be said that although the sun was shining, it was bitterly cold whilst we were there, and this had alot to do with our feelings about the accommodation. David sent some very useful maps by email about how to find the boat – unfortunately these arrived after we left, consequently we got very lost trying to find it. When we arrived, the shopping trolley, bicycle and rubbish in the water around the boat didn’t give us a good first impression, and the padlocked gate with barbed wire around the top didn’t make us feel any better. We walked along the side of the boat (the metal safety bar in the photos is no longer there) and entered a hatch to a hallway with a chipboard floor and a room with painted chipboard walls, a double bed with two summer weight mismatched single quilts on top (which kept falling off during the night), and hardly any storage, just two small drawers. It had a tea tray, but only one glass to drink from and we had to put the kettle on the floor to use it. The toilet is in the corridor (please note, the photo of the second room shows it with the door open to the hallway, the blue door is the toilet door – the hallway is not part of the room. Neither the toilet or the hallway is heated. There is no working lighting in the hallway (dodgy at night time when you’re descending a ladder) and only a battery operated light in the toilet. The toilet is several feet off the floor, and we doubted if a tall person would even be-able to sit on it, given the height of the ceiling. The shower is in the room, but there is no-where to place the shower spray, you have to hold it when you are taking a shower and the description mentions bathrobes, but there weren’t any. Also the door of the room does not lock. The boat is 40 minutes walk from Central Station, or you can take a tram, but this is five each Euros for a return journey (£4.30 at current rates), so we walked. This boat is NOT central to Amsterdam. The bike hire was not offered to us (even though we specifically asked about how to get into Amsterdam), and even if it had been, we would not have paid for the hire of the bikes that were on deck as they didn’t look fit for purpose. The first night was so cold that we had to keep our clothes on to go to bed. There was no working heating when we got back to the boat at about midnight – this is a good way to get close to someone if your relationship is in trouble! All in all, this accommodation was not worth the 55 Euros (47.31) paid, and we will not be returning.
We have to say that if this had been our first experience of Travellers Point, we would not have used it again – thankfully, we have used it many times before, have always been happy in the past, and will continue to use it

Travellerspoint Response

David, the owner of this property, got in touch with Travellerspoint and asked us to post the following response:

I'm very sorry that your stay at my houseboat turned out to be such a failure.
Quite a lot went wrong .,
I want to stress to future guests that I always try to make a stay at my houseboat a pleasant one and I'm always willing to help out if there is a problem.
David's boat is not a regular hotel but I'm sure that the vast majority of my guests experience a stay at the houseboat as a good .,clean / secure and fun alternative to a regular hostel or hotel.
I do have two excellent bikes (but the where used that particular day by other guests) and I assure you that there always will be proper bath ropes and nice and clean bedding available.
Last but not least..the houseboat is located only a 10 min. tramride to the central station and a 30 min. walk to the center of town.

Me and my girlfriend thought that this was a great place to stay. It's in a nice, quiet part of the city and it's only a 10-15 minute tram ride to the central station which is pretty much where you have to start your day regardless of where you stay. The room was very clean and tidy and David had put a fan in the room for us as it was quite humid the day we got there, which was much appreciated! He also had a couple of bikes that he rented out to us, which was fun! All in all it was a great place to stay. A bit quirky, but great.

David's Boat is a cozy room located in the wheel room of David's boat, which is docked on a quaint park about a 25 minute walk from Central, and five minutes away from the nearest tram stop. The neighborhood is very charming and we found many good markets and restaurants in that area, especially the delicious brunch place a block away. It was also very quiet at night and completely void of the tourist crowd. You enter David's Boat into a small wheel room with the shower and sink, then climb down a ladder into the bedroom and toilet. Climbing down the ladder was a tight squeeze both in height and width- David gives the dimensions in his description, so make sure you read them. The bed was very comfortable with a nice duvet and blankets that we used during the cold nights on the water. The boat and bathroom was very clean, although the boat was definitely old. For the price, it was pretty expensive for the amount of square footage and distance from the center of town. However, in a city like Amsterdam with such a concentrated central area full of tourists, it was very nice to have our removed boat to go back to. The owner of the boat, David, was very helpful, friendly, and quiet on his side of the boat. The room came with instant coffee, some tea bags, and a kettle, but did not have any soap at the sink. The boat also has a nice area with plastic chairs to sit outside and smoke whatever while enjoying the peacefulness of being on the water. The boat and the cabin were both very charming and a unique place to stay in Amsterdam, which is renowned for its canals, if you don't mind spending a little bit more for the experience.

Hi David, I really felt like at home in your boat. The wee captain's suite sent me straight back into the seventies while the Talking Heads tape made my ears wide open again, or was it the mushrooms? Anyway, I'll never forget the conversation I had with a heron that patrols the canal at night. She told me from all flowers, she prefers the ones that grow in the dirt. Good luck!
