It was good. From Bus station you hire a proper cab and pay no more than 10 RMB.
The Shaolin temple id 12 km away from the hostel so there is a special small white bus after 400 meters from the hostel which takes 2.5 RMB to take to Shaolin Temple.
Wifi worked well in the room...

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Recently I had the wonderful opportunity to stay in Dengfeng(pronounced "Dung Fun") at the Shaolin Traveller's Hostel! The residents of Dengfeng are very friendly and not greedy. When I first arrived I was only overcharged for a taxi ride by 1500%. As long as you know how to haggle you can avoid the higher fees like the 2000-3000% price increases for being a Foreigner. The streets and sidewalks are very clean and I only found myself slipping in baby shit on one occasion. It's just the fun of being in China!

The hostel is run by Coco who seems to be very curious about Foreigners. Coco knows excellent restaurants around town where you can go and eat and hopefully get Dysentery or even an exotic parasitic infection. When I first had diarhea it wasn't too bad and I only found myself going to the bathroom about 10 times a day for a period of one week. I lost a whole 20lbs during this time so it's great for people who want to go on a diet. At the end of the week I got a chance to go to one of the clean and exceptional hospital facilities. This was the largest hospital in Dengfeng and I only saw one puddle of urine on the floor next to the Doctor's office. I thought they could use a second puddle so I promptly vomited before collapsing onto the floor from dehydration!

Coco is a very caring person and even though she might go through your stuff while you're away from the hostel it's only to make sure you brought everything you need. I found the hostel to be in excellent condition and although there was no hot water the room stayed a nice frigid temperature of about 40 degrees Fahrenheit at night, which is good because I don't mind not sleeping. There is also computer access in the hostel which they encourage you to use frequently. The computer is very secure with only one backdoor trojan horse waiting to gather all your passwords and keystrokes. This is a pleasant amenity because I don't mind having my bank account and other sensitive information looked at by Chinese people, seeing as they're not greedy. The people running this hostel are the salt of the Earth!

Of course if you're in Dengfeng you're going to want to check out all the awesome sights to see here, like the Shaolin Temple. The Shaolin Temple is the real deal. It's not like other locations in China where it's just a tourist trap with a lot of stores on location willing to sell you shoddy merchandise. The merchandise at this location has been blessed by the mysterious voodoo rituals of the monks themselves so you know it's going to last a long time! For the small sum of $20 and above a real Shaolin Monk will allow you to sign your name on a 1 inch square in a book they keep inside the main temple. If you sign your name in this book you will most likely be downloaded straight into Heaven upon the time of your death.

Coco values and respects your opinion and time very much so when she found out there was no hot water in my room she gave me $3 worth of tea and requested that I give her a good review. I can be bought off easily so here I am leaving an excellent review of this 5 star location! Unfortunately in the end I was forced to leave China two months early due to medical reasons. If you're a traveller on the fence about coming to China let my review be your guiding light! In conclusion I recommend a lengthy stay at this hostel!

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The hostel was well situated with easy access to the Shaolin Temple and other very interesting cultural sites. It is also close to the centre of Dengfeng where a short walk will take you to numerous shops and to delicious street food at a very low price. The rooms, though Spartan were immaculate and the manageress, whose English is excellent, was the epitome of helpfulness and service. She even refused a sizable tip at the end!
The only surprise was having to pay a room deposit even if the room was paid for in full. This was because of the in-room drinks and was full refunded. Also payment could not be in any currency except Yuan, but US dollars were exchangeable at the Bank of Chiona down the street.
Highly recommended.
