Recommended by Lonely Planet, Rough Guide & Tripadvisor, this renovated fisherman's house situated on the mangrove clad shoreline of the Klong Prao river estuary, 150 metres from Klong Prao Beach on the west coast of Koh Chang.
The travel guides seem to like Baan Rim Nam. . .
"Live like a canal fisherman, with wi-fi and air-con. Perched on a wooden pier on Khlong Phrao, and backed by a mangrove, this renovated wooden fisherman's home affords the opportunity to experience a side of Ko Chang most visitors never see . . . . The guesthouse is often full so reservations are highly recommended." Lonely Planet Online Guide. Review by Joe Cummings.
"Baan Rim Nam: A charming, idiosyncratic, converted fishing family's house, built on stilts over the klong at the end of a walkway through the mangroves. Run by a British-Thai couple, it has just three comfortable, stylishly-furnished air-con rooms with good bathrooms, plus a deck area for lounging but no restaurant. You can borrow kayaks and it's a couple of minutes walk to the beach and Barracuda Restaurant." The Rough Guide to Thailand 2007, page 495
"This out-of-the-way guesthouse is set in one of the most gorgeous spots on the island." www.Travelfish.org
Baan Rim Nam (which means "House on the water") is run by a Thai/English couple and their golden retriever dog. There are five air-conditioned en-suite rooms at Baan Rim Nam. The rooms are spacious and bright and have been decorated with neutral colours and bamboo furniture. There is one double bed in each room. Each bathroom has a shower, sink and western style toilet. Bath towels and toiletries are provided. There is 24 hour electricity and water supply.
As Baan Rim Nam is only a small place we don't have a restaurant. However, there are cheap places to eat on the beach nearby and three restaurants on the river - they'll send a boat to pick you up at night
Because we are located in Klong Prao in the centre of the west coast of the island, getting around is relatively easy. Motorbikes can be hired nearby and there is a regular shared taxi service operating on the main road approx 15 minutes walk away. We are located away from the crowds - there are no bars or huts within earshot, only local families who earn a living fishing or running boat services.
However, there are a couple of good beach bars a few minutes walk away which are great places for grabbing a cold beer whilst watching the sun go down. We have free sea canoes and canadian canoe for guests to use.
We also offer FREE Wifi access in the rooms and on the deck by the river, if you have your own laptop. If you dont we have a laptop you can borro to check your email. We can help you organise dive courses, snorkelling trips, visits to elephant camps motorbike or car hire etc.
Koh Chang can be reached from Bangkok by minibus, public bus or plane. Travel time by bus is around 5 -6 hours. The plane takes 50 minutes, Bangkok Airways operate a minibus service which will take you direct from the airport to any resort on the island. Best way to get here from Bangkok is on the 7.45am or 9.45am buses from Ekkamai Bus Station, Bkk direct to the ferry piers in Laem Ngop.
Car and passenger ferries operate year round and the cost for a one way ticket for a foot passenger is 60 - 90 baht / head depending on your choice of ferry.
When you get off the ferry on Koh Chang simply hop on a white pick up truck 'Songthaew' (shared taxi) heading for Klong Prao beach.
Tell the driver to drop you off on the roadside at the turning to the luxury Panviman Hotel & KP Huts. We are a 15 -20 minute walk down the track, 100 metres past the Panviman. (Our guesthouse is signposted there.) But I will pick you up from the main road. I'll give you details when you book the room
