YHA Wanaka Purple Cow is a relaxed welcoming backpackers hostel, situated in the stunning alpine village of Lake Wanaka New Zealand. Our central Wanaka location offers uninterrupted views of Lake Wanaka and New Zealand's famed Southern Alps, with a range of warm and comfortable budget accommodation and great communal facilities.

You can book travel activities through the Hostel travel desk including - skydiving, kayaking, rock climbing, mountaineering, horse trekking, fishing and Puzzling World. New Zealand's best ski fields and Mt Aspiring National Park are only 40 minutes drive away.

YHA New Zealand is a non-profit membership organisation. Non-members pay an additional NZ $3 per person per night fee upon check-in. Memberships can be purchased online or at the hostel. By plane – we are located 10 km from Wanaka airport – shuttles are available for $15 and meet all flights into Wanaka

By Car – if travelling from Queenstown via the Crown Range, turn right off the Cardrona Valley rd into Brownston St; if Travelling via SH84, turn left onto Brownston St
