This is a Trusted Review. Why?
Two things redeemed this hostel: a) the location - right next to greyhound station (the mode by which we are travelling), and a few minutes walk to lots of places of interest such as Beale St etc. b) the pool - clean, quiet and open late, excellent facility for the Memphis heat.
However there were many issues we found during our stay. Whilst the first room we were in (which was private) was to an adequate standard of cleanliness (if slightly dated decor), the dorm room we resided in for the subsequent duration of our stay was not. We came in to dirty or no sheets on the beds.
The advertised facilities had much to be desired. The free wifi did not work 90% of the time, and was extremely slow when it did; all of the vending machines were out of order, as was the ice machine; we were not informed when or where breakfast (continental) would be available and when we happened to come across it, it was a paltry selection of pastries. The hostel also charges to store bags, and whilst this is not advertised as being free or anything, that is generally the case in most hostels.
We also thought that the roommates that we were given for two of the nights was not really appropriate. As two young females, we were rather uncomfortable sharing with single middle aged men who slept in only their boxers....
On reflection we would only return if we were again travelling on a budget as it was the cheapest accommodation we could find, and for the fact that it was very central.
