Booked on the site for a 6 bed dorm for four people and received confirmation. Upon arrival I was told that the dorms were booked up and that I couldn't get my deposit back as it went to Travellerspoint/hostel booker. The guy serving me was really wonderful but the owner/boss kept on insisting that either we had to go somewhere else or take single rooms for 22 000-sounds like a better than a dorm room right? No!, the rooms were box sized, we had no control over the air con - which apparently came on every 40 minutes for 20 minutes, this was not true. The rooms were really hot.
The bedding smelt unclean- especially the pillows, the place was generally tidy, but this was the main cleanliness issue I had. I would never stay at Alpha guest house again- We only stayed as it was a saturday and most hostels were booked up by then, otherwise I would have gone somewhere else the instant they told us our dorm was booked up.
My friends and I stayed here in last few weeks. Though we had booked 2 rooms since last March, we were told that only 1 room was available when we reached at the guest house. Hence 2 of us stayed in a motel in front of the guest house for a night (and will be transferred back to the house on the next morning) and the other 2 people stayed in the house.
Then, we were asked to pay the full payment for the rooms for the whole trip. At first, both parties has agreed on the rental of double room would be W40000 per room per night (as in their website at that moment). However, they tried to increased the charges by saying that it was a peak season and they have to charge W45000 per room per night. We argued as the rooms were already booked months before and they finally gave in.
Weird things happened slowly one after another. The manager was seen coming out from an occupied room (but the guest was outside somewhere in the city, and housekeeping was not provided in guest rooms) and on our last day, we were accused for damaging their mattress!
The damage was said happened due to our ironing activities. The bed sheet was all fine but however the cover of the mattress were seen having several burnt spots. Of course we argued on it since it didn't make sense at all as we didn't use the spot (damage area) to iron our clothes, and how it could be damaged if the bed sheet didn't have any burnt traces. The most ridiculous point that the manager gave was that he saw us ironing on the bed and at the damage spot earlier that morning. How could it be? We always locked the door while we were in and the window were always closed at all time. That freaked us out as if he might have hidden camera in the room or he has peephole OR HE WAS ACTUALLY LYING ALL THE WAY to scam us!!
We were finally charged W120000 for a new mattress and W20000 for the truck fee to take away the 'damaged' mattress after arguing for at least 40 minutes. The mattress were claimed TOTALLY DAMAGED just because of burnt spots which could be covered by bed sheet.
We would totally not recommending this place for your stay due to safety (they go into your room while you are not around, MIGHT have hidden camera or peephole), poor facility (the toilet sink was leaked during our stay and they don't bother the fix it), and no guarantee room though you have booked earlier.
But of course the decision is yours, if you insist to stay in the guest house, please have thorough check of the room before you check in. Or they will have chances to scam you. Take out the bed sheet and pillow cases, check the window, hanger bar, aircond, dressing table etc.

I was extremely impressed with the service and warm welcome I received from the Staff- So Sang Won and Jo Jo. They made feel welcome and gave me good advice about South Korea.
I found that as a team that their approach to handling customers was highly professional and was impressed by Jo Jo's sensitive customer relationship skills.
I will definitely use this Guest House in the Future and will strongly recommend to British nationals who are looking for a cheap yet high quality stay in Seoul.

i had a booking for 4 days on a 2 person dormitory for W20,000/night/per bed. When i check in, the manager told me that that only way to stay in that room is to occupy the whole room meaning paying the double. I was upset and dissapointed. But the manager was very calm and professional in explaining that it was there mistake and therefore offered me to stay in a single room ( immaculately clean and big) instead with a price of W40,000/night. With a heavy heart i accepted the offer knowing that i will be over budget. Anyway, it was a good decision because the Manager. Ms Chiqui was not only a very accomadating but also a very caring person. She takes care all of my needs and make sure that i am comfortable. The owner of the guesthouse is very lucky to have a very respectfull and honest person in the person of Ms. Chiqui. Definitely, i will be staying in this place again....if the manager is still there.

We were moved to a Motel that was opposite the hostel inside of staying in the hostel itself.

The location was quite satisfactory, near to the subway station.
But overall I would say that it was not a pleasant stay. First, I was asked to stay at a new place, which is not as per what was mentioned through the website. No one would despise a new room, however, the room was too new to a point that it was not ready at all.
Amongst the problems i faced with the room was, the air-conditioning was not working, on the 3rd night of my stay the bathroom lights werent working and on the fourth day, the room started to leak..
Alpha Guest House is a fantastic place to stay. It is clean, cozy, and extremely welcoming. Their air conditioning is both powerful and quiet (which is a must in Seoul's humid summers), the beds are comfy, and the facilities are top notch. Wireless internet and TV are standard. If you don't have a laptop there is a desktop computer located next to the TV with super-fast internet that is open to any guest. It's great for checking email and keeping in touch with your family and friends. Also included is an oven, a microwave, and an electrical water kettle for boiling water (coffee is free!).
Breakfast is provided every morning and the foods range from western cereal (which was delicious!) to Korean sesame tapioca dumplings (which were also delicious!). Each morning there is something different and it's great to have breakfast provided so you can get your busy day started.
As far as location, you couldn't ask to be in a better spot. The Alpha Guest House is located in a little tucked away side street which is quiet (no problems sleeping) and well-lit (very safe). The subway stop (Sinchon) is about a 3 minute walk from the guest house and is on the the Green Line which connects directly to a bunch of other awesome stops. Also within a 5 minute walk is a movie theater, TONS of bars and restaurants (both Western and Native), and a thriving shopping environment. Having traveled to Seoul a few times in the past, the Sinchon area is easily my favorite part of the city - and you're right in the heart of it!
The manager is an extremely kind and caring woman, and she speaks English EXCEPTIONALLY well. She genuinely cares about her guests and it is such a relief to have someone you can talk to and ask any questions you have about traveling, the local area, the Korean language, or just chit-chat in general. Not only does she have an excellent knowledge of the surrounding area of Seoul and can help you get around, but she can also recommend travel itineraries, local bars and restaurants, and even OTHER GREAT GUESTHOUSES if you want to travel around the country!
The bottom line is, if you're coming to Seoul: STAY AT ALPHA GUEST HOUSE!
The best stay ever!
The freedom of space within an apartment.
The comforts of a home like environment.
The clean and comfortable apartment.
The manager with a genuine heart & heartwarming smile who speaks perfect English and renders awesome service. She is always looking out for your needs and wants.
The owner of the guest house, never hesitating to give a helping hand to helpless tourists who know nuts about the place.
There is also WIRELESS internet access and a computer to use for both leisure purpose, or for help in planning your itinerary. If you like, you can also bring along your own private laptop! The private room in guest house 2 is air-conditioned but most of the time, the environment is extremely cooling to sleep in. There is a cute dining and living area with a TV to watch on days you're lazy to go out or when you return early! The place is near rows of shopping and food areas. Extremely convenient for those who crave for a late night supper. There are also karaoke bars and a movie theater near the guest house for those who feel bored in the night! Most importantly, guest house is near the subway station and extremely accessible!
I would not hesitate to recommend the guest house to anyone who is set on a tight budget but still demand a comfortable environment and fabulous service. The big smiling manager is always there to help you when you need it. This place is fantastic for such a low price paid! Full Marks!
