Internet Access 24 hour reception
It is now past the first year since we've opened our doors to you, dear travelers. From that moment in June '07 until now (i am writing this in december 08), more than 6000 people from all over the world (Yakutsk to Borneo) have stayed at the Mali Mrak Hostel in Zagreb.
A lot has happened in that year – we have grown, both in experience and appearance, re-invented the hostel, many friendships were forged during your stays here, we have acquired a pet cat (courtesy of two girls from Belgium who found the kitten -it's a she by the way - while wandering on the slopes of Zagreb's hills ** Special Update, July 2009 : Since Ali-baba's popularity is rapidly growing, please make appointments at the reception to meet her majesty :)
and so on and forth. We have found new ways to accomodate the needs of all kinds of wanderers who cross our doorstep - some of you look for entertainment, some for solitude, some simply want to relax in the Hostel, never even venturing out of it except for food forages, reading a book or surfing on the web ( we have 3 terminals from which you can do that, and of course a wi-fi bubble enclosing the Hostel itself). All web access is unlimited and free of charge - we have a sensitive ear for a traveler's low budget, especially since some of us used to travel themselves (and, sometimes, still do so ).
So, what is it you can expect then, constant traveler, here at our Hostel in Zagreb?
We are located in a cozy, authentic neighbourhood , some 20 minutes from the centre of Zagreb. Everything you need is right in our immediate vicinity – 2 extra large supermarkets, bakeries, post office, banks, tram & bus terminals, pharmacies etc.
The Hostel itself has 3 floors. The ground floor houses the reception, a 2-bed room (all 2bed rooms have tv/dvd sets, no extra charge of course), 3-bed and a 7-bed dorm, as well as a bathroom. Some of the pictures you can see here on this site, but we recommend visiting our own for better, high-res quality pics, especially since last year we have re-decorated and painted the entire hostel anew.
To continue our tour – a staircase leads you to the 1st floor – here is the internet room, another bathroom, a 2-bed, 4 & 7-bed dorm.
*A note here – all rooms have very large lockers available -(can fit two large backpacks and more into one if need be), we provide the padlock if you don't have one!*
Up the stairs again and we are on the last floor – here's the kitchen (fully equipped, from microwave to toaster), you'll always find free coffee & tea around, as well as sugar and other small necessities. Another bathroom is here, including the laundry room. Past the kitchen is our common room – check out the pictures on our web site, it is a very cozy place and has hosted many interesting parties . Tv & dvd and a big movie collection are of course present at all times, for those evenings when it's just nice to relax and watch a good movie. We also have a quieter area those who wish so, with its own separate entrance
That would be the Hostel in a nutshell. What you do with your free time is entirely up to you of course, but we are here also to give you tips and hints about the city. Whether you want a quiet dinner at a tavern serving home made croatian food or visit one of the numerous club in the city, we can help.
We have bikes which you can use to explore the beautfiul nature parks around Zagreb, or we can recommend you secret spots outside the city only locals know about, especially during summer, where you can swim in a river which is so clear you can drink the water. There are many places you will never find even in the best tourist guides, and that's exactly where we can help, and to avoid tourist traps!
During the summer, we recommend enjoying our back yard and terrace – have a cool beer with the staff and other guests or we make barbecues for whoever wants to join.
Other Hostel trivia worth knowing – we have a sort of game for guests, a quest so to say,and those of you who wish to tackle it can gain a free night's stay here and a really nice bottle of wine. I'll just say that it's about finding certain „installations“ in the city itself, but that's enough for now.
Matters concerning the function of the hostel itself – one of us, the staff, is always present in the hostel, 24⁄7,so don't worry about a thing while here. We also have a very high cleanliness rating, which you can also see in the guest reviews – we intend to keep it that way, but it requires your cooperation, especially when the hostel is full.
Before i say goodbye, i'd like to thank all our guests for the wonderful reviews you gave us! Thank you indeed!
Many of you have come again to our little place, proving to us, beside the reviews you so generously gave on the web, that you found a home away from home, here, while on the road. See for yourself why we are top-rated on Hostelworld.
That's it for now, we hope to see you soon in Zagreb!
Igor, Hostel MM staff member
(there's also Andriana & Henry, who also send their regards to both old and new guests)

Very nice hostel. A bit far from the center of the town but the staff was very friendly
Great stay. Greeted by friendly and informative man at the desk - bit hard to find him though. Very clean and signs up all over the bathrooms about keeping the bathrooms that way. 3 computers for free internet which was great but always full. Free wireless as well. Kitchen with fridge to use but crowded if more than 2 people inside. Room size was more than adequate. About a 10 minute walk to the tram stop. Would stay there again.

There is this Ilica street, longest in Zagreb. When you get to the number 275 turn left. That is Ivanićeva street and you just enter it. Dubička is the first street on the right from Ivanićeva.
(Guests please note: there is a city tax fee of 1€ per person for a night, not included in the price. It is something you pay in every place in Croatia where you stay, croatian citizens also have to pay this)
We are 4 minutes from the tram station. And 15 minutes by tram from central square of Zagreb. It is 45 minutes by foot.
- From the main square ( Ban Jelacic square ) take trams 6 or 11 -From main train station take trams 2 or 6
-From the main bus station take trams 2 or 6
-From the airport take a bus ( 4Eur or 30kn ) that will take you to the main bus station. You can also take a city bus ( blue one ) for 13kn that brings you to the main train station but you'll have to walk 1km from the airport to get to the station.
-All trams must be taken in direction CRNOMEREC. Here is the link to day tram lines: http://www.zet.hr/pdf/mrezadan.pdf Your ride will take cca 10-15 min, your stop is the last one, called Crnomerec. ( It is the sixt station from the Jelacic square )
When you get there, just keep walking on the left side of the street that the tram was driving on. ( name of this street is Ilica ). By Ilica nr. 275 turn left into street Ivaniceva, after that turn to first street to right, that is our Dubicka. We are on number 8.
