Casa de Ania

Ania and Alex are the most friendly, supportive and helpful couple I met in La Habana. They meet travellers throughout the day and night...whenever they arrive... with a big smile and a warm welcome. And believe me, after spending 11 nights at the Casa, I know this to be genuine.

About Casa de Ania

Award for excellence 2011!!!.Welcome to Casa de Ania! Situated on a typical Havana Street, only 5 minutes walk from the Malecón in a colonial zone with famous Cuban charm and close to all attractions. Safe area. Ania's house is right in the heart of the city. It’s the best example of a hostel in Cuba.

We are an economic casa located in the middle of Havana. It is located in the centre of the capital. In one of the most central places in the city. not far from the Habana Libre, very near from at the University Havana, and the Malecón. The staff is competent, professional, polite and helpful. It’s a clean place you can communicate in English because both Ania and Halet speak English.

Our hostel offers you all the information to move around as well as Laundry service for our clients.

We can also provide lunch/dinner, transport to and from the airport and more. All for good prices! Special for backpackers and students who want to get to know people from all parts of the world and to have a direct contact with a Cuban family.

Accommodation Information

Relax in our common room and prepare meals in our kitchen! The fully independent apartment has two bright, airy air-conditioned rooms, with three beds. (Can be shared by up to 3 people one room). Here we have another private room with your bathroom very clean and comfortable for you stay in our hostel.

The shared bathroom is clean with a hot shower. (share room 1) Price per night includes laundry; we can also provide home-cooked lunch and dinner at an affordable additional price. Make us your home away from home in Havana!

Location Information

The only way to get from the airport to the city is by car or taxi, there are no buses.

We collect almost all of our clients personally from the airport, for 20 CUC. Just email us after booking and we'll arrange the airport transfer for you! If you prefer to take a taxi, give the taxi-driver our address.

If you're coming from another part of Cuba, again it's easiest to take a taxi from the bus terminal to the house.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Ania and Alex are the most friendly, supportive and helpful couple I met in La Habana. They meet travellers throughout the day and night...whenever they arrive... with a big smile and a warm welcome. And believe me, after spending 11 nights at the Casa, I know this to be genuine.

Because I stayed my entire duration of stay at their home, I was invited to stay in the private room rather than one of the dorms, but still accessed the dining/lounge area of the hostel facilities where I mingled regularly with other travellers/tourists.

Their hospitality was second to none, the place was cleaned top to bottom sometimes twice daily. You could not fault them for cleanliness, or for the home-cooked food that was readily available.

Their location is perfect, especially if you want the best of both worlds... situated between Central and Vedada districts of La Habana, with plenty of decent bars, paladares, bakeries, fruit markets and drinks counters and a bank in the very near vicinity. Plus only four blocks walk to Le Malecon (the promenade next to the Florida Straits).

I really enjoyed my stay. I met plenty of other people from all over the world, it had a really good hostel atmosphere.

The only minor (which is not at all Ania or Alex's fault - as their hands are tied by the government in Cuba as to what facilities they can offer) is that there was no outside space. If they were allowed to have a roof top garden/veranda with plants and seating, it would be the icing on the cake... I know Ania is a visionary and has many plans for the hostel, when the government relax their policies.

Once thing I will say to anyone who has got this far...(sorry I've written so much, I just feel they deserve a decent review...) is take a variety of spices, herbs and white pepper for Ania if you go and stay... such things are really costly, and often impossible to purchase at all!

Most travellers go to this hostel through word-of-mouth - as it's not in the Lonely Planet, which is probably a good thing for us travellers, please go and experience Casa de Ania yourself, mingle, practice your Spanish, and have fun. :-)

Casa de Ania is definitely the best casa in Cuba!
We came here at night without money, because we had problems with our cards at the airport. But that was no problem in this casa, they take care of us very good the first few days without any money! We stay here a few nights in the beginning of our trip around Cuba and at the end also a few days. It was so good! Thanks a lot Alex and Ania!

With kind regards, Yordi & Leonie (Hollanda).

I had great time staying with the Ramirez family and its located in a good area.

The Ramirez family was very hospitable and provided great food. I would stay there again when I go back. It's a mixed dorm where a I met a lot of cool people.
