In over six weeks of travelling on our second summer in Europe, this was our favorite hostel by far: its a small apartment that feels like a friends house - super easy to get to know people.

About Poets Corner Hostel

Poets' Corner Hostel is a small, homelike hostel right in the historic centre of Olomouc.

The shared dorm rooms are all big and colourful and we believe them to be the best value accomodation in Olomouc. The private rooms have comforable double beds and can be set up as twins, doubles, triples or quads (let us know if your first choice is not available here).

If the beds on this website have sold out it doesn't necessarily mean the hostel is full. Send us a quick email to find out.

December and the winter:

This is an excellent time to visit Olomouc. The Christmas cheer is in full swing with a great Christmas market in the main square where there are lots of stalls selling tasty food, drink (fruit punch!) and gifts. Live entertainment with music is on at various times too.

We celebrate with a Christmas dinner at the hostel too and the atmosphere here has an 'at home' feel complete with a Christmas Tree.

New Years Eve at Olomouc is not to be missed! The city puts on a great party with live music and fireworks sure to welcome in the new year with style.

Many historic highlights, attractions, restaurants, bars, cafes and cosy teahouses remain open during winter and the large student population ensures there is always a party out of the cold somewhere!

ICE HOCKEY:

Olomouc is one of the top teams in the first league of the Czech National Competition and home games are on 3,10,14 and 21st Dec, 7,11,21,25th Jan and 1,8,15,22nd Feb. Tickets are less than 3 euros and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Changes to bookings:

We've recently had some very negative/angry reactions stemming from disagreements about the 10% 'deposit' on bookings that guests have changed.

Please let us be clear in advance that there is no way we can 'refund' your excess deposit if you booked too many nights or too many beds.

We simply DO NOT have your deposit. It goes to the booking company and stays there.

It's no problem to change a booking if you notify us in advance, but please bring a printed copy of your booking and conditions with you to check in so we can avoid any unnecessary arguments about your 'deposit' Thanks.

Cash:

Please understand that in such a small homelike hostel it’s not practical to have credit card facilities at the reception desk. We could do it, but because of our small size the added bank fees and commissions would mean we'd have to put our prices up quite a bit. And what budget traveller wants that? We’ll ask you to pay in good old fashioned Czech crowns upon arrival, so please have enough for what you've ordered plus 200czk as a key deposit (which you get back when you return the keys on your last day).

Check-in time:

There's no curfew in the hostel but to check-in on your first day, please arrive between 08.00 and 22.00. We don't have 24-hour reception for the same reason we don't have a credit card terminal, and because you guys don't need a babysitter hovering around all night anyway. If you really can't arrive within those 16 hours, please contact us directly and we'll see what can be done.
