If you would like to be robbed, stay at this hotel. I am not accustomed to needing to bring my own padlock to secure valuables in a provided locker in rooms of any hotels I've visited in South America, usually, having a lock on the door to your room is accepted universally as being enough to keep your valuables safe in any standard hotel in a large city around the world. Even placing my backpack snugly on the uppermost shelf of the closet and securely locking the door of my room didn't stop one of the hotel's staff from entering my room with the intent of taking items that belonged to me, rummaging through my backpack and to steal my ipod. Usually a small (but expensive) item wouldn't be a huge problem to have taken during international travel, but my line of work as a guide requires me to have an ipod to play the songs of birds to entice them closer for tourists to see, without it I essentially cannot make money. Thanks, Folklore Hotel, for making my life very unpleasant.
They didn't even do an honest job of trying to disguise the robbery as my bag had been visibly disheveled in the closet where I placed it in my locked room, the pockets to my clothing opened as well. I felt extremely violated.
