Sparrowhawk Backpackers is located in the hillside village of Moretonhampstead, in the atmospheric Dartmoor National Park, Devon, south-west UK. Great area for hiking, cycling, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, wild swims and wild camping (camping kit available for hire at Sparrowhawk), for the adventurous traveller. Also popular with artist and photographers.
Sparrowhawk is a small, friendly, relaxed, eco-hostel, home stay not hotel, (don't expect a reception desk), with bunk house accommodation in a beautifully converted stone stable and also offers a double room, a sunny courtyard and some pet hens. Often muddy hiking boots and bikes around. The kitchen is fully equipped, including free tea/ coffee.
Dartmoor's ancient archaeological sites, dating back to the Bronze Age, include mystical stone circles, standing stones, burial sites and dwellings. Books, maps and info are here for you at the hostel and a Tourist Info. Centre is close by.
We are 14 miles west of Exeter, the nearest city, (frequent direct bus, 359 Exeter to Moretonhampstead), and about 30 miles from Plymouth. Click on the "getting there" link for maps and directions.

BY CAR - From the M5: Take Junction 31 onto the A30 and travel for approx. 1 mile. Take the next left exit down to the roundabout. Moretonhampstead is signposted on the roundabout.
From Exeter city - Follow the B3212, signposted on the Exe Bridges roundabout.
From Plymouth - Follow the A386 to Yelverton, then the B3212 across the moor.
