Bob Marley House (also known as Sherif Hotel) is a very good value. It's very inexpensive and, although the facilities are very basic, Ziggy and Achmed are both very, very helpful and nice.

Well the 'best and most comfortable place in luxor' it is not, but if you are looking for a backpacking hostel, there are certainly much worse. What I liked most about it was the location, in that it was off the beaten tourist path and one could go out to the shops and to get something to eat without the endless pestering from calesh drivers, taxi drivers etc, which is all too frequent on the cornishe and around the Temples.
What I liked least about it is that every sound echoes, whilst trying to sleep I could hear every word that was being spoken on the ground floor, as well as the tv.
Having paid for a room with a private bathroom, I had to use the shared bathroom as there was no hot water in my room, this was fixed on the second day, so in taking a shower in my own room on the third day, the shower head then fell apart.
The sheets on the bed are very old and even though they had been washed, they were very grubby. The manager told me that they were encountering some problems as they had 'only recently opened', from this I assumed that they had just taken over the place, so one would have thought they would have bought some new linens. The towels were new, but they are hand towels, so if you need more than a hand towel for your shower, I suggest you take your own.
Breakfast consists of an omelet, that is just eggs, nothing else, and not very well cooked, plus a pancake, which also could be cooked a little more, plus bread and jam, and tea, you get the same breakfast every day.
The hotel itself is clean, and has some wonderful paintings on the walls. The staff are great and very friendly and courteous. I would stay there again but I would definitely take my own linens and towels, and recommend anyone planning on staying there does this.
In fairness, the hotel is very cheap, and my comments are not by way of complaint, but an honest description of what the hotel is like.

Bob Marley House (also known as Sherif Hotel) is a very good value. It's very inexpensive and, although the facilities are very basic, Ziggy and Achmed are both very, very helpful and nice. Achmed went out of his way to help us get sold-out train tickets (and gave back some of the money I gave him since the price was lower than they thought he thought it would be!) We went on an amazing felucca ride on the Nile with Said arranged by Bob Marley House. It was a very inexpensive and wonderful experience!
Really nice place to stay with unbreakable breakfast included! Very clean rooms, because of Fati and the other girls, working hard. The staff is very nice and helpful, just maybe a little to relaxed...but this is the Bob Marley spirit! Great!
