I stayed 4 nights, and every day I had a different breakfast...including an opportunity to have a typical Salvadoran breakfast.
Florida, the owner makes you feel so welcome and gives true meaning to "mi casa es su casa". Her service, and attention to detail, (and her staff) is excellent, they are cheerful and helpful.
My room was spacious, bright, comfortable and clean.
I am single mature traveller, and it is not easy to find inexpensive ways to take tours when you are travelling alone; however, Florida arranged with a superb driver/guide to take me where I wanted to go, so my trips were tailored to my requests and I believe for a fair price.
I would recommend to anyone going to San Salvador that they stay in Hotel San Mateo.
I must say at first i was alittle concerned cause i thought it was a regular house but once i got inside it was amazing, the rooms were clean, the people were very friendly.
Even when i was hurting from leg pains they took their time to help me and and get me what pills i need to manage the pain.Overall i had a wonderful time and and would recommand this hotel to anyone going to el Salvador.
