Live Sports! If there is a game on, you can be sure we'll have it up on our big screen on Saturday afternoons! And when it comes complete with drink specials during the game, there's no need to go out into the cold looking for a sports bar.

Still not enough? You're a tough customer! Luckily, we're up to the challenge.

Our common area is by far the coolest and funkiest around. Based in what used to be a pub, it has often been described as a 'technicolour explosion' you'll just have to see to believe. All we know is that our common room is simply awesome. The laidback atmosphere makes it easy to meet other travellers. Your only trouble will be convincing yourself to get out there and see the sights when there's so much to do here!

It's comfy, it's cosy. It's a great place to socialise with new friends and drink a cold beer from our bar (which sells quite the variety of international beer favourites and a collection of cocktail concoctions) while warming up in front of our fireplace.

In the summer, one of the best places to be is our garden. There are loads of plants, and it's a great place for a chat or a BBQ, or even to test your skills on our basketball game. At night it's lit up by all sorts of different lights, making the atmosphere really cool.

Need a snack or forget something? It's no problem. We sell travel essentials and a selection of crisps as well as other snacks to feed you - that is if you are still hungry after pigging out at our free nightly snack buffet!

So what kind of rooms do we have to offer? At Birmingham Central, we have it all.

We have private singles, twin and triple rooms which are with tea and coffee making facilities, TVs and DVD players as well as books and a selection from our movie library.

We also have dorm rooms that hold between four and eight people. Most dorm rooms have lockers, a sink and shower but toilet facilities are shared.

New last May: Our eight bed POD dorm! It adds a new level of privacy to backpacking. Based on the Japanese capsule design, each POD has a 360 degree private reading light, locker, extra comfy mattress, and curtain so you can have the utmost privacy if that's what you are looking for. But book early if you want to secure one of these beds - they sell like hotcakes.

At BCB, we have something for everyone.

Do you want to stay somewhere that really is centrally located in the city because you don't want to pay for transport? That's smart thinking. Who wants to lug their belongings far distances across town when you first arrive? No one, of course. Not to mention the cost of taking taxis and buses (that can really add up). When we say we are centrally located, we mean it!

Check out how close we are to the following:

1 minute walk to the National Express Coach Station

1 minute walk to Barfly

8 minute walk to New Street Train Station

8 minute walk to Arcadian and the Gay Quarter

10 minute walk to Carling Academy

was so impressed by all that is offered as part of the stay - it gives a very warm welcoming environment. The staff were very helpful - really serving their guests.

Felt very laid back, chilled and homely - a home from home. Even if i could afford hotels, i prefer the atmosphere and hospitality offered in a place like this.
would definitely like to stay here again on future trips to birmingham.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

I have stayed at this hostel a few times, and always look forwards to going back.
Its a couple of minutes walk from the Bullring in Birmingham centre, so the location is ideal.

Staff are friendly, and available until 12 midnight, there is no curfew, you have a code for the back door if coming home after 12.

I have usually asked for a 6 bed female dorm when booking, and been given a free upgrade upon arrival if one is available, although that isn't an official thing they advertise.
Beds are comfy, rooms are clean, brightly decorated and functional. No double glazing so it was a bit cooler this week when i visited, however the rooms were still cosy enough, with oil filled radiates in, and an open fire downstairs in the communal area, which is lovely.

There is a good cross section of international travelers at the hostel, so its a great place to stay to make friends, there is always someone sat in the living room to chat to. They have the largest video film collection i have ever seen, and put a couple of movies on each night. a light supper and continental breakfast is included in the price too, it cost me £12 for a great night of rest and food.

I have never had to queue for a shower or toilet, and they are very clean and well maintained. laundry facilities are available too.

there is also a bar, for guests only, Jack Daniels £2 a shot, not bad.

I'd recommend this place to anyone backpacking, or just visiting Birmingham for one night for a gig or event. It feels safe friendly and homely

A cheap, warm and colourful room.

On the plus side, the small room was well laid out with an elevated bed giving room
underneath for a chair to watch the TV, DVD or VCR. On the minus side, the mattress
was uncomfortable, there were not Remote Controls for the TV, DVD or VCR and the
ladder to get onto the bed was very hard on the feet unless you are wearing shoes.

Absolutely brilliant - really helpful on arrival and was actually lucky enough to get an upgrade! The common space is fantastic, really bright and colourful, and a space where you can just chill out and feel free to watch movies on their HUGE screen, or borrow any DVD's you like for your room. Free soup at the end of the night - a real Godsend when you have the midnight munchies! Friendly staff, awesome collection of people, quirky decoration which made it even the more fun. And a very important fact - heaters in our rooms, free wi-fi, breakfast in the morning and an AMAZING hot power shower... what more could you want? Very impressed, will definitely check back in next time in the area.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The Central Backpackers Hostel was well hidden away in an industrial estate and was kind of hard to find without a taxi on the first day. However once you know your way in and out, its merely minuets of a within walking distance to the City Center. The place was decorated very differently to any other hostel i have ever been to. Multicolored walls, fairy lights and souvenirs surround very corner of the common room which gave it a very warm and homely atmosphere.

The staff are very willing to help with any problems you may have and there is no end to their hospitality. I was amazed at the amount of free things on offer, like the small breakfast, the small evening snack, towels, hair dryers, use of an intendo wii and the dvd collection, etc. The place is very much a social one and people of all nationalities are all very willing to make conversation. At night people come together and watch a movie from the projector in the common room, so even if you re traveling alone you will feel included.

The rooms, though basic, were very clean along with the bathrooms and shower room. Private rooms are situated in a separate building close by, so be prepared for an extra 4 minuet walk home at night. Don't let this discourage you though as the area is very safe.

Over all, our stay in the Central Backpackers Hostel was very much a pleasant one. It was close to most attractions and also very near all forms of transport for the attractions that were a bit further out. For the price you pay, you receive alot more than just a room. The people there make you apart of their 'family' for the time that your there and you wont want to leave when your trip is done. I would highly recommend them. :)

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Free food! Free beer! Free video nights! Free wi-fi! Clean rooms, no tolerance for aggressive behaviour and therefore no sign of any, sounds like Birmingham Central Backpackers´management should be given a shot at running the country! Very generous and homely place, which is important for medium-term stayers, i.e. those in town looking for work before moving into their own place. Was only there 1 night myself, but I got a good feeling from the place, that it wasn´t especially being run as a business, which is probably the best way to run a business when one thinks about it:-)

As I say, I was only there one night, but when I explained that my bus home was at 2.30 the next morning there was no problem for them in letting me spend a second evening there. When relaying this kind of information it seems almost unfriendly of me to mention that the male toilet cubicle was out of order in the time I was there, I wonder how long that´s been going on ? But really and truly, if you´re a little travel weary you couldn´t do better to recharge your enthusiasm than stay at this place, even if the part of central Birmingham we´re talking about here might not challenge Paris or Venice for looks. There are more important things, eh ?
