Conveniently located opposite the Teatro Sols, a lively street on weekends, places of interest near the old city center and close to downtown. The hotel is very original and does not leave anyone indifferent. In an early twentieth century house, spacious rooms are decorated with wooden floors, high ceilings, cable TV in some rooms, private or shared bathrooms. Very Art Deco, is furnished with antiques from flea markets and antique shops. All rooms are individually decorated. The set is vintage and immediately immerses you in another era. A kitchen is available for residents who can relax in the dining room or reading room (games, TV, piano). Free Wi-Fi in rooms and public areas. Simple and assorted breakfast: fruit, pastries, cereals, tea or coffee, bread, butter and jam. Finally, an important detail: the hotel is gay friendly and is a point of honor to accommodate any client, no matter where it comes from and who it is! Very friendly staff. It offers free access to movies in Cinemateca Uruguay.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Accomodation was fine for budget accommodation and the staff friendly. The rooms are impressive with 6m high ceilings and 5m high doors! Location is very convenient to the Old city of Montevideo.

Fortunately we did not use the parking garage recommended by the hotel staff as we subsequently found out that it closed at 8pm at night and was also closed the entire weekend - day and night! It is definitely not open 24 hours daily as the hotel staff seem to think. We parked the rental car in the street overnight and the it was fine.

Parking at the parking garage overnight was $180 (Uruguay pesos) paid at the hotel and refunded to us because we could not use it as it was closed at 10pm when we wanted to park the car . In the street it is $20 per hour from 10am to 6pm and then free after this.

The hotel is located above 4 pubs, each with tables and chairs on the street outside, and while the atmosphere is very festive the noise goes on most of the night (Friday) and when they clean up the street at 8am on Saturday the pub staff again make a huge amount of noise. We stayed on Thursday and Friday nights and Friday night was very noisy.

I don`t recomand this hotel it`s not clean. the owner , a fat woman doesn`t speak english , portuges.... the bedroom was very noisy and dirty . I cannot speak about the bathroom ....a shame! you must pay more for anything you ask .... and is not secure ! take care with your money in the rooms....

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

This has to be the top budget hotel/hostel I have stayed at in all my years of travelling. The title of the hotel is most appropriate, for they were all indeed Splendido.

The location was great, for it was easily accessible from the bus station for 10 pesos on CA1 to Independence Square, right off of Julio 8, a shopping street.

Most of all the people who worked there were outstanding. The one time in my 20 some odd years of travelling, I had an allergic reaction which was in full swing when I arrived in Uruguay from Buenos Aires. Needless to say I was very concerned and in great discomfort. They quickly reassured me that they would get me help, beginning with Susana. First I went to a 24 hour pharmacy nearby which assisted in getting me to a 24 hour public hospital, free of charge of medical treatment, with the exception of medication because the pharmacy was closed by 11:00. Then the next day when I wasn't improving, Danielo at Splendido called a nurse to come directly to the hotel to assist me and provide me with an injection. The only item I paid for were the over the counter medication/cream at the pharmacy. This would not happen in most places. They were extremely genuine and concerned. Unfortunately since my return to Buenos Aires where I was flying back to Venezuela, I am still battling this reaction of which we have no explanation as to its cause. I am not Venezuelan; I am an American teacher who has lived and travelled overseas for many years.

Agustin gave clear directions and assistance how to reach other places to visit, as well as the place was very clean and safe with restaurants and inexpensive eating places nearby.

I cannot speak highly enough of them, even the young lady who prepared breakfast for us, Ecida was very accomodating and friendly. It was indeed a rare experience, and I would stay there in the future without hesitation. Matter of fact, I feel that these individuals represent their country's hospitality, for in general, throughout my 4 days in Uruguay I found the people of the country most hospitable.

Don't overlook this hotel. It is a gem and was my salvation during a very difficult time, allowing me to still take advantage of my visit to Uruguay when not in the best of health. I give them top rating without a doubt and thank them profusely for their help and assistance.

Gracias, Splendido.
Kathy
