Budget Accommodation > Europe > England > London > Hostels > St. Christopher's Hammersmith
We only stayed here for one night as we passed through on our way to the airport, but we wish we could have stayed here longer! It's a great place, albeit a little removed from the center of the action. It's very clean, quiet, and sociable. There is a pub right downstairs, too, so you only have to stumble upstairs if you get too smashed.

The Hammersmith Hostel in London is easy to get to from Heathrow Airport on the London Underground and it's surrounded by buzzing a hive of activity.
Hammersmith Broadway is internationally famous for the offices of Coca Cola and Disney. Above and beyond that there's the brand spanking new St Christopher's with a cut price Belushi's bar downstairs. The hostel survived two world wars, a hefty conversion to make it cool and hip and now it's ready to be your base as you launch yourself into the thriving capital of the United Kingdom.
You guys are spoilt to not one, not two but three tube lines, an over ground railway station and a brand new bus station. You also have some rather scenic river walks along the Thames, which is a mere five minutes away and it's not far from the lovely Kensington Park Gardens, Hyde Park and Harrods.
You will find our Hammersmith Hostel smack in the middle of all that is good and great in this mash-up of major brands, employers, transport links, shops and great nights out.
The hostel is a mere hop, skip and jump away from the tube station and it's a listed building! This means a whole dollop of old school class in your St Christopher's bedroom and some ultra modern creature comforts, all within drunken crawling distance.
At reception you will find some super friendly fellow backpackers who are just brimming with local London knowledge. They will hook you up with maps, top money saving tips and an essential crash course in how to survive the London underground.
Fun things you might not know about Hammersmith include:
- Hammersmith is one of the biggest multi-national centres in London. It's also the main centre of London's Polish minority in the United Kingdom and possesses a truly international and all inclusive feel like no other.
- It's possible that the area gets its name from Hamoder's Hythe, which is where a man called Hamoder landed on the river Thames.
- If you head north you will arrive at the St Christopher's Backpacker Hostel in Shepherd's Bush. East takes you to Kensington, South brings you over the Thames to Belushi's in Fulham and to the West you have Chiswick.
- One of the most popular attractions in the area is the Hammersmith Apollo. This concert hall has played host to the great Mötley Crüe, the Beatles and Black Sabbath. To this date it still attracts some of the most popular acts around so why not stumble five minutes south of the hostel towards this venue and check out who's playing?

FROM LONDON TRAIN STATIONS
1. London trains are tricky but if you do end up at any of the major junctions, here is how you get to us.
If you rock up at PADDINGTON STATION, take the pink, Hammersmith and City underground line to Hammersmith and take the Hammersmith Broadway exit. We are situated at the Belushi's bar.
If you arrive into KINGS CROSS ST. PANCRAS take the Piccadilly underground line straight to Hammersmith.
LIVERPOOL STREET makes it easy to reach us on the Hammersmith and City underground line.
WATERLOO is a bit more tricky for our intrepid travellers. Take the Jubilee underground line to Westminster, stay underground and jump on the District Line. Be sure you get on a west bound train that has Richmond or Ealing Broadway on the front of it. Otherwise you may well end up in the wrong place.
VICTORIA STATION is a lot easier. Just jump on the District line and follow the instructions above otherwise you might end up in Wimbledon!
