Bayview Lodge, Praia da Barra, Mozambique

Bayview Lodge is a superior self-catering resort within the Bayview Estate, which consists of privately owned, brick and thatch beach houses.

Bayview Lodge and Bayview Estate are found nestled between an estuary and a long, sandy beach, at Praia da Barra on the north-eastern tip of the beautiful Inhambane peninsula. The area is an oasis of tranquility and the perfect retreat, where guests can relax, explore the underwater wonderland on their doorstep and enjoy the night sky, far away from bright city lights.

The lodge consists of self contained 1 or 2-bedroom units, which are fully equipped for self-catering. The bedrooms are air conditioned and all beds have mosquito nets. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. Guests must bring their own beach towels with them.

Although accommodation is on a self-catering basis, there are several restaurants in the area for those who prefer not to cook for themselves. Our restaurant is presently under construction (Aug. 2009). A scuba dive centre can also be found on the premises.

We are approximately 485km north of Maputo, Mozambique, and 25km from Inhambane town. All roads leading to the resort have been hard packed with coral sand, making it possible to reach us with a normal passenger vehicle without any difficulty. No 4x4 is needed, but is useful if you want to explore a bit off the beaten track. GPS co-ordinates: S23° 47.129min. E35° 29.901min.

The nearest airport is Inhambane international and we are approximatly 20 kilometers from the airport. There are four flights per week from Johannesburg via Maputo, or direct flights from Johannesburg to Inhambane with LAM airlines - the national Mozambican airline. Other charter airlines fliy the route as well. We provide airport transfers by prior arrangement - R150 per person return. For the adventurous, take a ride on one of the local taxis, but, be warned, its not for the feint hearted!
