Mbuyuni was beatiful, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better place for the money. The rooms were huge and beautiful, it really was paradise. The only thing was that the food wasn't very good, and you had to order dinner at 5 to get it at 7:30. The place next door has great food and great service so go there for meals. If I was going to do it over again I would definitely stay at Mbuyuni. We did a snorkeling trip that they arranged and it was great, we saw tons of coral and tropical fish, plus it was only $12/person and they basically let us snorkel for as long as we wanted.

Fabulous! Just what we were looking for. Quiet, natural environment without all the tourist hussle and bustle. The food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Having the beach to ourselves is what a beach holiday is all about!!!

Very nice Resort.
The atmosphere is very relaxing and pleasant.
Miki (the manager) and his staff did a very good job. Lovely people.
You can use this hotel as a base from where you can start your excursions around the island.
Miki will help you to organize your trips for reasonable prices. AKUNA MATATA... No problem!
The food at the resort is good but the service can be somewhat slow...
If you are looking for a nice beach, then you should look somwhere else. Here it is impossible to swim if not in the little swimming pool offered by the resort.
The area around the resort does not offer any kind of night life.

Mbuyuni Beach Village is located approximately half-way between Paje village and Jambiani village. It really isn't anywhere near Jambiani at all. There is nothing around Mbuyuni other than similar resorts. It is located right on the beach, though. Guests must take note that the tide goes out a very long way at this location and swimming is not possible for much of the day.
Mbuyuni is a growing resort. It has some older villas and some brand new ones. Unfortunately, the building program will be going for some time, and this means that there will be the building (and other) rubbish strewn around the place. Speaking of rubbish, it seems that the resort burns its waste just beyond its perimeter wall - and right on the beach!
Our room was a good size, and the mattress was not too soft. However, no-one had given any thought to the shutters which just kept blowing about in the constant wind that we enjoyed while at the east coast of Zanzibar. Also, there was sand blowing in to our room all the time and it was impossible to keep the floor (and thus, our bed) free of sand. A small broom in every room would help in this regard.
The bathroom was great, except for the lack of water on two occasions (out of our three-night stay) and the fact that no staff member had bothered to switch on our hot water heater prior to or upon our arrival; we had to find the switch out the back ourselves.
Breakfast was skimpy to say the least; however, guests can ask for a top-up.
Staff were quite friendly and responsive when approached.
Very simple chalets but cosy, very homely feeling, beautiful beaches to walk on and amazing waters for snorkeling, staff was very warm and friendly, and the food was very tasty !!! Overall I had a really good stay and I will definitely recommend it especially for the low cost

I stayed here with my wife and two teenage children for 8 days and found the place grew on you. It looks a bit tatty when you arrive and the staff are not very friendly in fact my wife wanted to leave after 1/2 an hour but by the time we left we were all very sad to be leaving. Good points: Relaxed location, good clean rooms, lots of chill out areas, rock poolling just off the beech, nice pool. Bad points: Water presure means the shower is useless. Shame about the rocks just off the beech means you can not swim safely off the resort, staff need to learn to smile, food took 2 hrs to arrive on our first night not good after a long days travelling.
We ate at the next resort for most of our time which had good service and good food, it seemed that everybody at Mbuyuni did the same.
Overall I would be happy to recommend Mbuyuni as a good clean budget accomadation, it's not 5 star but nor is the price.
