Clean and neat, but a terrible musty smell from the bathroom. Was within walking distance from train station, on bus route, quite central. Ground floor flat with adequate self-catering faculties. TV did not work.

For this amount of money you get a good place to stay. It is not a five star hotel but ok. Good beds, clean sheets and free linen. If you want, you can make your own meals. The direct neighbourhood is not so interesting. However within a ten minutes walk you are in the center of Berlin.Traffic can be noisy but was not a big problem. The main downsize for us was the particular smell in the apartment.

This apartment, on Paulstrasse, is very close the centre of Berlin - 10 minute walk to the area of the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden, Holocaust Memorial & 20 minutes to either the Siegersäule or Checkpoint Charlie. In fact there probably isn't anywhere in the central area of Berlin that could not be reached on foot from this apartment.

The apartment itself, is comfortable. It has within it all the basic things one would need for a self-catering stay in Berlin. There are several small food shops nearby and a bank with ATMs on a corner, about two blocks along Alt Moabit. The apartment is not expensive.

The only downside is that the apartment is located at the corner of a busy traffic intersection, and can therefore be quite noisy. It was very hot when we stayed in Berlin & we had to leave the windows open at night. This means that every ambulance & police siren is likely to wake you up - unless one is a heavy sleeper!

The advantages however, outweigh this one disadvantage, and we would certainly use this apartment again. The young man that opens it for visitors & gives them the keys etc., is very pleasant and helpful. It might pay to phone him a couple of hours before arrival, just to save some waiting time.
