This is a Trusted Review. Why?

You are initially put off by the fact that the taxi cannot drop you at the door because the Sherif Street is a one way street. Well, as someone else said before me, don't get put off by the rickety lift and the dirty staircase in the building. Once you are on the 4th floor and meet one of the three owners, you will be at ease. The place is new and clean and actually being a large apartment, is more like a holiday home. Beware though, being in downtown, the streets are busy 24 hours !

The staff (owners) are extremely helpful, speak good English and will give you sound and proper advice on everything from buying falafel to drawing cash, from drafting your itinerary to finding your way about in Cairo, from making local trips on your own to having it organised for you at reasonable cost. Mike, the English speaking driver, a former Dive instructor, is on their rolls and is sincere, humorous and very helpful and is worth having him take you to all the three pyramids. Apart from this, you end up striking conversation with other travellers in the living room which makes it all the more fun.

The staff also helped me get a hotel booking in Aswan through their contact. I could not get it via internet for some reason and their contact in Aswan was useful.

As a woman travelling alone, I felt very comfortable and cared for, thanks to Adel, Dia and Jamal.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Good place with a good location.
Here are my points:

Positive:
location, friendly staff, helpful. Like vising a friend's apartment. WiFi is good in the common room but basically useless in my room (Rm #403). Breakfast is a couple scrambled eggs with bread and jam so didn't have to hunt of a place to eat in the morning.

Negative:
it's not as quiet as other say. Rm #403's outside shutter doesn't go down all the way so had to drape a coat across the window. Another guest said they heard the traffic all night but got used to it. For the noise I brought ear plugs and that did the trick. The only 'maps on hand' was the size of large business card, so I dropped by the Hilton for a copy of their 'all-city' tourist map (free).

If you can have handle the 'not-quite-as-quiet-as-advertised' aspect, it's a good place.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

This place was a last minute find online whilst looking for last minute accommodation for a conference at the CICC in Nasr City. Of course, I was more after a downtown Cairo experience than a sterile international hotel, but also needed somewhere with a degree of peace to complete some work for the conference. THH has only been open less than 6 months came up trumps on all fronts.

Accommodation is just as the pictures. Clean new sheets, comfy beds and well maintained rooms. Air con or fans were in both of the rooms I stayed in and mosquito coils are provided upon request. Small basic kitchen with free continental breakfast provided.

Wifi is reasonable though reception in the room away from the router (at reception) is iffy and occasionally drops - probably as much due to ISP as anything else. Speed is fine though and desktop PC in common area is rock solid and not tied down too much so you can fiddle if you need to. The common area also has a great balcony, 42" plasma TV with lots of international channels. Entire place has a cool clean mock Mediterranean feel which is a fitting sanctuary from the slightly gritty urban block it's in (4rth floor - quite a climb). Common area also has a fantastic little balcony with a great view onto the street below.

Location is superb - literally 4 floors up from the El Abd bakery described accurately by the Rough Guide as one of the best in Egypt (divine Turkish delight with nuts for $5). Also a stones throw from a very cool Kosheri place (local vegetarian dish of pasta, fried onions, chickpeas and stuff) and the environs are very safe (apart from the perennial risk of getting run over). Many local cafes are a 5 minute walk away where you can sit amidst hookas drinking coffee for hours just watching the street life.

James the proprietor has also travelled pretty widely himself and he and the rest of the young and ever-present staff are is a great source of advice about local issues both food and tourism. They organised a great pre-dawn camel ride and subsequent trip to bazars and certified papyrus shops. I paid 100 Egyptian pounds for the driver for a morning with the camel ride and stuff being extra.

Well worth a visit.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Staff was very helpful and friendly in this hotel which was centrally located in the bustling city center. We enjoyed a driver provided by the hotel waiting for us on arrival at the airport at a very early hour (a real plus), free wifi, breakfast, laundry service, close proximity to the museum, restaurants, cafes, action, ...and a staff arranged a personal driver for our visit to the pyramids. Don't be put off by the age of the building because the hotel on the 4th floor is new and its people made our stay very comfortable.
