This is a Trusted Review. Why?

I have no idea why they state that this mini-hotel is Australian owned apart from the fact that the owner is probably sat on Bondi Beach sipping a beer and watching the money roll into his account. I was left with this poor girl who did not speak much English and generally had not much idea what was going on.

First thing is trying to get the official tourist invite for the Visa. I think I sent 5 emails with no reply whatsoever. Contact was very poor. Eventually I did receive the invite via my girlfriend after many phone calls. The cost was 500 roubles and another 500 to have your visa validated. Also there is no way to pay for your stay by credit/debit card so you will find yourself having to draw a large amount of money out of an ATM and getting charged for each cash withdrawal which adds to the cost of the visit.

When you finally find the entrance to the Hotel (I have no idea why they can't put a sign on the outside of the building) you may think you are entering a squat. When you pass through the rusty metal door into the building staircase you will be convinced you are entering a squat. The Hotel (which is a converted apartment) is on the 3rd floor of the building. There are no lights working after the first floor so try to arrive during the day so you can see where you are going. The staircase is dirty with debris but I guess this is not the fault of the Hotel but surely someone has a sweeping brush?

Once inside the room I was met with lights hanging from fixtures, a bed with sheets that don't fit the bed, a bathroom with four lights but only 1 bulb, curtains hanging precariously from the curtain rail. On the walls and ceiling there were the remains of 4-5 squashed mosquitos. It did not take long to discover which of the two windows to open to let some air into the room, the only window with the mosquito cover ... the other is missing.

The room was not particularly clean to start with but this worsens if you stay here for any length of time as your room and sheets are not cleaned until you leave, so after a week I found myself cleaning the shower, toilet and sink. You know those nice little soaps and shower gels you usually get in hotels? Forget them. The shower does not even have a holder for the shower head so get used to washing with one hand. I had to ask for some toilet roll and was given a half used roll. In the end I was stealing paper from various restaurants and cafes as there was none offered.

There is a kettle outside the room and you can make yourself a coffee or tea but buy your own milk because there in none. Occasionally there was a loaf of sliced bread there as well but you had to be quick.

The good thing is you can come and go as you like at all hours. And the location is great, next to two metro stations. But returning late one evening there were a couple of dodgy guys hanging around the staircase inside the building and I really would not recommend this for any single woman travelling by herself. It does not feel safe.

Unfortunately I cannot compare this to any other mini-hotel in Russia as this was my first visit. You may be thinking that you are getting a cheap deal but don't forget that the price quoted is per-person so if you are in a couple then you might be able to find something better for there same price. If you are a single male, travelling by yourself for a night or two and don't mind looking at squashed mosquitos on the wall and ceilings then this may be for you.

P.S - I have the photographs.
