About The Palmyra

Welcome to The Palmyra - a private residence that offers you a UNIQUE hotel alternative!

The Palmyra is ideal for couples, a group of friends or a family who wants to have the comfort of home in a foreign country, a perfect base for exploring Bocas del Toro while enjoying a quiet place to write, read and relax. We offer you a small size un-crowded atmosphere and privacy with all the amenities you need to have a great stay in Bocas.

Dear travelers, please note that we do have a minimum age requirement of 25 years for all of our guests.

Families with their children (aged 12 and up) are warmly welcome.

Sorry, we do not accommodate young adults aged 18-24 unless they are travelling with their parents.

The Palmyra is close to everything in the small town of Bocas del Toro. If you don't like to walk, take the bicycle. Each of our guests can use a bicycle free of charge 24 hours a day.

The Palmyra is a 3 bedroom/ 3 bathroom apartment with a full kitchen that you can rent per room. Whether you rent only one room or the entire apartment, at the Palmyra you will find a friendly, nice and private atmosphere.

But it is not the same as staying in a hotel. In an apartment there is neither a reception nor are there any employees around, you make your own plans for hikes or daytrips and you make your own reservations.

You will find your way around. You will find our special Bocas Guide in a leaf-let in your room to provide you with information and useful hints and if you need more information you can reach us in the mornings and in the evenings and we will be happy to help and assist you.

You get keys for the gate, the entrance and to your room from us and you can come and go like you want - like at home.

This apartment offers everything you need to feel at home:

We offer one room with a queen size bed ( Double deluxe ) and each of our other two rooms are equipped with two single beds ( Twin deluxe ). Each room has its own private ensuite bathroom.

Each of our rooms is styled and decorated in the warm colors of the Caribbean Tropics to match the island we live on. The interior is furnished with our unique Palmyra designs, largely made of local hardwood and entirely handmade by local workman. You will enjoy comfortable beds with high quality orthopedic mattresses and 100% pure cotton sheets.

Each of our rooms is provided with a 32-inch flat screen television with cable TV. We receive local and international channels like CINEMAX, CNN (English and Spanish), TNT, HISTORY CHANNEL, SPACE, DISNEY etc.

The Palmyra offers free wireless internet to its rooms and common areas for our guests that have laptops or PDA's.

Each of our rooms is equipped with a super efficient and very silent air-conditioning. With the remote control you can choose your perfect temperature.

Each of our rooms has its own private covered patio with access to the garden. The patios are equipped with relaxing chairs and hammocks. Our garden is full of birds. Experience how relaxing it can be watching them from your hammock, especially the hummingbirds.

We don't serve breakfast, but can recommend a morning stroll to some nice places in town. Our guests care for themselves and cater for themselves. This is why you will find a fully equipped kitchen in the apartment. You can have a 5 course meal, if you cook it yourself and you can enjoy unforgettable evenings in the well furnished dining area - then you have to clean up! You don't like cooking all the time? Our favourite restaurants are presented in the leaf - let in your Room.

There is no service, you have to support yourself. If you need your towels and linens changed daily we are not the right place for you.

You will experience Bocas in a different way - we want you to have the best time in Bocas!

The Palmyra is pet-friendly. For those with allergies, please be aware we do have 5 cats, they are not allowed inside the apartment but they might relax or join you on your patio and they love to play in the garden.

Your pet is warmly welcome but by prior arrangement only.

THE PALMYRA - PROPERTY TERMS & CONDITIONS

(1) Payment:

• BALANCE DUE in CASH ON ARRIVAL.

• KEY - DEPOSIT: $ 40/ per Room.

• WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS.

(2) Check- in/out:

• Check-in is available from 14:00 (02.00 PM) till 19:00 (07.00 PM) on the day of arrival.

• IMPORTANT: If you cannot be at The Palmyra at about the estimated arrival time you have given us on the booking enquiry, please contact us and give us your new arrival time.Please keep in mind that The Palmyra is an apartment - not a hotel and there is no reception.

• Check-out is not later than 11:00 (11.00 AM) on the day of departure.

(3) Luggage Storage:

• Early arrivals or late departures are welcome to store their luggage.

• Please note that storage will be entirely at your own risk.

(4) Cancellation Policy:

• Cancellations must be made by email and be received by us no later than noon, three days before the arrival date. If cancellation is received by us within this timescale no payment will be due. If cancellation is not received by us within this timescale the full amount of the booking will be payable.

• If a booking includes a special date, cancellations must be made by email and received by us no later than noon, ten days before the arrival date. If cancellation is received by us within this timescale no payment will be due. If cancellation is not received by us within this timescale the full amount of the booking will be payable.

• Cancellations for Group bookings (2 rooms or the entire apartment) must be made by email and be received by us no later than noon, 14 days before the arrival date. If cancellation is received by us within this timescale no payment will be due. If cancellation is not received by us within this timescale the full amount of the booking will be payable.

• If a Group booking (2 rooms or the entire apartment) includes a special date, cancellations must be made by email and be received by us no later than noon, 28 days before the arrival date. If cancellation is received by us within this timescale no payment will be due. If cancellation is not received by us within this timescale the full amount of the booking will be payable.

• Special dates are: Christmas, New Year, Easter and Carnival.

• Failure to check in (no show) will result in the full amount of the booking becoming payable.

• If there is any delay in your itinerary- please contact us- as we keep the room for you only for two hours from your stated time of arrival. After which, you will be considered no show, your reservation will be cancelled and the full amount of the booking will be payable.

• Guests that do not fulfill our minimum age requirement of 25 years at check- in will be cancelled and the full amount of the booking will be payable.

• We strongly advise guests to arrange travel insurance with cancellation cover.

• We regret to inform you that travel conditions/illnesses fall under the same cancellation policy as above so no refunds will be given under any circumstance of cancelling after the cancellation policy has passed.

• The Palmyra reserves the right at its absolute discretion to cancel your booking at any time before the date on which your stay begins where it considers such action to be appropriate.

• We reserve the right to terminate your booking immediately without being liable for any refund or compensation if you engage in unacceptable behavior that causes a disturbance or nuisance to other guests or if you ignore and violate our house rules.

• Booking fees paid to WRI are non refundable. There are two booking fees that WRI charges: One booking fee through this web agent site is the service charge. The other booking fee is the deposit you will need to pay to secure your booking. This deposit is the commission that WRI charges to secure your booking.

• The Palmyra cancellation policy allows cancellation at no charge if you cancel within our above stated policies. After that time the full amount of your booking will automatically processed on your credit card. Please note that in case of late cancellation, no-show or if we have to cancel your stay on your arrival day, because you do not fulfill our minimum age requirement at check-in a bank processing charge of 14 % of the full amount of your booking will be applied in addition upon your credit card, no matter the reasons or circumstances.

(5) Occupancy:

• Minimum age requirement: All Guests must be at least 25 years old.

• Families with their children (aged 12 and up) are warmly welcome.

• Sorry, but the Palmyra is not suitable for children under 12.

• The maximum occupancy of any of our rooms is 2 persons whether adult or child of 12 years and up. Extra beds are not available.

• Only guests who have checked in with us will be allowed into The Palmyra.

(6) House Policies:

• To ensure the comfort of all guests we have established some simple rules based on common sense and courtesy.

• You will receive our House Policies on your booking confirmation.

• Staying with us infers acceptance of our Property Conditions and our House Policies.

HOUSE RULES
(1)Money Matters
•If you want to extend your stay, please notify us at least one day in advance and make payment for your extra night(s) at the same time (cash only).
•No refunds can be made on a booking should you choose to leave earlier than intended.
•Laundry or extra housekeeping service must be paid in cash upon requesting these services.
(2)Housekeeping
•We do not offer any daily housekeeping service.
•Stays of 14 nights or longer will receive weekly full Housekeeping service free of charge. This service includes room cleaning, a change of bed linens & towels and removal of trash.
•Stays of 8 to 14 nights will receive one mid stay full Housekeeping service free of charge. This service includes room cleaning, a change of bed linens & towels and removal of trash.
•For all stays longer than 8 nights: We will prearrange with you a convenient time for the Housekeeping service a day in advance of the service.
•Stays of 7 nights or less do not have any housekeeping service included.
•Upon request you can receive fresh bathroom towels every 4th day of your stay at a rate of $ 5 per call out/ room against return of the used ones.
•No Housekeeping service available on weekends and on public holidays.
•If you feel your room needs more cleaning than we offer please feel free to do it yourself- like you do it back home and safe some money. We can provide you on request with the necessary cleaning supplies.
•Your bathroom is stocked with an initial supply of toilet paper and hand soap- If you run out of these items during your stay it is your responsibility to purchase what you need at the local stores. Please remember ‘The Palmyra’ is an apartment and not a hotel – and these items are just enough to get you started, they are not intend to be adequate for your entire stay- no matter how long you stay with us.
•Extra cleaning or replacement costs will apply for linens and towels with blood or other stains.
•To avoid any insects (ants etc.) in your room please empty your rubbish cans if they are full or contain any food wrappings, open food etc. into the rubbish cans in the kitchen. Never leave open bottles or open food in your room, in the kitchen or outside. Please keep in mind that a little crumb of food will feed hundreds of little ants.
•Please remember you are on a tropical island!
•The common areas floors are cleaned by us on a daily base as well as the trash and recycle bins are emptied daily.
(3)Laundry service / per load ( washing and drying)$ 5
•Please ring the bell in the kitchen from Monday to Friday in the time from
09.00 AM – 10:00 AM if you want us to do your laundry.
Your laundry will be returned at the same day.
•No laundry service in the evenings, on weekends and on public holidays.
•The Palmyra takes no responsibility of any damage or loss of your laundry.
•Iron/ Ironing board on request free of charge.
(4)Beach towels
•For hygienic reasons it is not allowed to take the bathroom towels outside our premises.
•You can get beach towels on request free of charge ($ 5 deposit/ Towel).
•Beach towels will be changed weekly free of charge or you can receive fresh beach towels upon request every 4th day of your stay for an extra charge of
$ 2,50 / towel against return of the used one.
•A lost beach towel will be charged at $ 20.
(5)Peace and Quite

•Please respect the privacy of the other guests and avoid any disturbance.
•To maintain a relaxing atmosphere no loud music is allowed anywhere on the property at any time.
•In order to respect other guests you have to keep the noise level to a minimum between 10:00 PM am 09:00 AM.
(6)Visitors
•The premises of ‘The Palmyra’ are exclusively for our registered guests.
•For security reasons and to maintain peace and quiet it is strictly forbidden for registered guests to bring visitors inside the premises of ‘The Palmyra’. Not even for a short period of time or to show your accommodation to your friends!
•Never let taxi drivers or tour guides enter our premises. They have to wait for you outside on the street.
•Anyone found staying with unregistered persons inside the property of ‘The Palmyra’ will be required to leave the premises immediately without any refund.
(7)Time to contact us
•Please note again – ‘The Palmyra’ is not a hotel. We do not have a reception.
•Please contact us, if there is anything that is not working, broken or damaged.
•If you wish to contact us or if you wish any service as listed above please ring the bell in the kitchen during the following time:
Monday to Friday: 09:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 06:30 PM – 07:00 PM
Weekends & public holidays: 09:00 AM – 10:00 AM
•It is not allowed to enter our private area.

(8)Check-out Procedure
•Latest Check-out time is 11:00 AM.
•Please inform us at least one day before your departure date about your estimated departure time especially if you are planning to leave early.
•Please leave your room in an acceptable condition. We reserve the right to charge for additional cleaning.
•Lost house keys (you have received 3 in total) will be charged at $ 30. ($ 10 each)
•If you fail to vacate your room by 11:00 AM we reserve the right to charge for an additional night’s stay.
•You are welcome to leave your luggage with us but you will have to leave the property at 11:00 AM ( Check-out time) since we are a small place and we want to make certain that newly arriving guests have the privacy and comfort they deserve. Please inform us if you want to store your luggage for later pick-up.
(9) Smoking
•Smoking is not permitted inside the house and in common areas, including the entrance area and the kitchen terrace. We ask you to smoke outside the house on your private terrace or in the garden and to use an ashtray.
•If you are smoking outside you have to make sure that all windows and doors are closed, so that the smoke doesn’t blow into the room.
•Please do not throw your cigarette butts into the trash bins inside the apartment. Leave them in the ashtray outside – we will take care of them.
•Drugs are strictly forbidden on the whole premises.
•Anyone found using drugs or smoking anywhere inside the house will be required to leave the premises immediately without any refund.
•We reserve the right to charge for additional cleaning.
(10) Pets
•Your pet is warmly welcome but we ask you not to leave your pet in the house alone.
•Please make sure to remove all droppings of your pet.
•Please contact us if you need food bowls for your pet.
•We reserve the right to charge for additional cleaning.
(11) Bicycles

•Our bicycles are free of charge and exclusively for our guests.
•You have to agree to our bicycle policies and you have to sign them.
You find our bicycle policies in the kitchen in the transparent information box.
(12) Security, Safety & Green Policy
•Please always ensure that all doors and windows are locked when you leave the house.
•For environmental and safety reasons you have to turn off the air-conditioning, lights and all electric appliances whenever you leave the house for a longer period of time ( e.g. taking a tour, going to the beach, bike riding etc.). You can cause a fire if you leave the air-conditioning running (or other electric appliances) and you leave your room unattended. How? Our air-conditionings run with 220 Voltage. After a power cut by the electric company the electricity will be turned on without prior notice. This can cause an electric short to appliances that has not been turned off. Electrical shorts are the most common causes of home fires. Power cuts happen very often here in Bocas and nobody knows when and for what reason they cut the electricity and when service returns. So please don’t put yourself or others in unnecessary danger!
•We reserve the right to enter your room and turn off the air-conditioning when it is obvious that you have departed the premises and this appliance is operating.
•You have to keep all windows and doors closed if you are in the room and the air- conditioning is running.
•Please support our effort to recycle. There are three containers for recycling in the kitchen - one for plastic bottles, one for glass and one for cans. Please be so kind and use them.
(13) Kitchen use
•Please notice that you share the kitchen and the kitchen terrace with other guests. It should be self-evident and not only a courtesy to the other guests that you clean up the kitchen immediately after you used it.
•You have to clean up all your used crockery, cutlery and kitchenware – dry them and replace them into their appropriate places.
•You have to ensure that you leave all appliances cleaned up as well. Do not leave your dishes, etc. in the drip tray!
•Please keep in mind that you need to share the refrigerator with other guests, therefore each room has its own designated shelf and areas in the fridge and there is an area for bottles you need to share (Labels with room names are on the kitchen shelf).
•It is not allowed to store any crockery, cutlery, glasses, kitchenware etc. in your room as they are not only for your personal use. Please remember you are not alone here and you share the kitchen and its contents with other guests.
•If the kitchen is left in a dirty and untidy condition (e.g. we find your dishes, etc. in the drip tray) there will be a service charge of $ 10 each time for clean up to the responsible party.
•Please remember you are responsible and liable for any breakages and damages you cause to the kitchen or its contents.
•In order to respect other guests who may want to sleep cooking is not allowed before 07:00 AM and after 10:00 PM (including the time for clean up!)
(14) Liability
•We do not accept any liability for injury to you or members of your party whist on our premises. Persons residing do so entirely at their own risk.
•We do not accept any responsibility or any liability for any loss or damage to any items brought from you into the Palmyra. You carry your personal belongings at your own risk. The Palmyra has no guard or safe-keeping duty.
•Please take care with your accommodation. You are responsible and liable for any breakages or damages which you cause to the accommodation or its contents.

Weekends & public holidays: 09:00 AM – 10:00 AM
•It is not allowed to enter our private area.

(8)Check-out Procedure
•Latest Check-out time is 11:00 AM.
•Please inform us at least one day before your departure date about your estimated departure time especially if you are planning to leave early.
•Please leave your room in an acceptable condition. We reserve the right to charge for additional cleaning.
•Lost house keys (you have received 3 in total) will be charged at $ 30. ($ 10 each)
•If you fail to vacate your room by 11:00 AM we reserve the right to charge for an additional night’s stay.
•You are welcome to leave your luggage with us but you will have to leave the property at 11:00 AM ( Check-out time) since we are a small place and we want to make certain that newly arriving guests have the privacy and comfort they deserve. Please inform us if you want to store your luggage for later pick-up.
(9) Smoking
•Smoking is not permitted inside the house and in common areas, including the entrance area and the kitchen terrace. We ask you to smoke outside the house on your private terrace or in the garden and to use an ashtray.
•If you are smoking outside you have to make sure that all windows and doors are closed, so that the smoke doesn’t blow into the room.
•Please do not throw your cigarette butts into the trash bins inside the apartment. Leave them in the ashtray outside – we will take care of them.
•Drugs are strictly forbidden on the whole premises.
•Anyone found using drugs or smoking anywhere inside the house will be required to leave the premises immediately without any refund.
•We reserve the right to charge for additional cleaning.
(10) Pets
•Your pet is warmly welcome but we ask you not to leave your pet in the house alone.
•Please make sure to remove all droppings of your pet.
•Please contact us if you need food bowls for your pet.
•We reserve the right to charge for additional cleaning.
(11) Bicycles

•Our bicycles are free of charge and exclusively for our guests.
•You have to agree to our bicycle policies and you have to sign them.

(12) Security, Safety & Green Policy
•Please always ensure that all doors and windows are locked when you leave the house.
•For environmental and safety reasons you have to turn off the air-conditioning, lights and all electric appliances whenever you leave the house for a longer period of time ( e.g. taking a tour, going to the beach, bike riding etc.). You can cause a fire if you leave the air-conditioning running (or other electric appliances) and you leave your room unattended. How? Our air-conditionings run with 220 Voltage. After a power cut by the electric company the electricity will be turned on without prior notice. This can cause an electric short to appliances that has not been turned off. Electrical shorts are the most common causes of home fires. Power cuts happen very often here in Bocas and nobody knows when and for what reason they cut the electricity and when service returns. So please don’t put yourself or others in unnecessary danger!
•We reserve the right to enter your room and turn off the air-conditioning when it is obvious that you have departed the premises and this appliance is operating.
•You have to keep all windows and doors closed if you are in the room and the air- conditioning is running.
•Please support our effort to recycle. There are three containers for recycling in the kitchen - one for plastic bottles, one for glass and one for cans. Please be so kind and use them.
(13) Kitchen use
•Please notice that you share the kitchen and the kitchen terrace with other guests. It should be self-evident and not only a courtesy to the other guests that you clean up the kitchen immediately after you used it.
•You have to clean up all your used crockery, cutlery and kitchenware – dry them and replace them into their appropriate places.
•You have to ensure that you leave all appliances cleaned up as well. Do not leave your dishes, etc. in the drip tray!
•Please keep in mind that you need to share the refrigerator with other guests, therefore each room has its own designated shelf and areas in the fridge and there is an area for bottles you need to share (Labels with room names are on the kitchen shelf).
•It is not allowed to store any crockery, cutlery, glasses, kitchenware etc. in your room as they are not only for your personal use. Please remember you are not alone here and you share the kitchen and its contents with other guests.
•If the kitchen is left in a dirty and untidy condition (e.g. we find your dishes, etc. in the drip tray) there will be a service charge of $ 10 each time for clean up to the responsible party.
•Please remember you are responsible and liable for any breakages and damages you cause to the kitchen or its contents.
•In order to respect other guests who may want to sleep cooking is not allowed before 07:00 AM and after 10:00 PM (including the time for clean up!)
(14) Liability
•We do not accept any liability for injury to you or members of your party whist on our premises. Persons residing do so entirely at their own risk.
•We do not accept any responsibility or any liability for any loss or damage to any items brought from you into the Palmyra. You carry your personal belongings at your own risk. The Palmyra has no guard or safe-keeping duty.
•Please take care with your accommodation. You are responsible and liable for any breakages or damages which you cause to the accommodation or its contents.

Lovely rooms and property. Rooms are clean, colorful and inviting, bathrooms are large, there is a fully-stocked common kitchen if you want to buy and prepare your own food, each room has a patio with chairs and hammock, and the owner and her family are very friendly and helpful. Wonderful experience and an exceptional value. The location is a few blocks away from the main street in Bocas Town where most other hotels and hostels are, but it is only a short walk away from all the action and the owner has bikes you can borrow. My friend and I stayed for 4 nights and we would both stay here again in a heartbeat.
