The Baobab on Lower Main

Photos Facilities Map Streetview Reviews

The Baobab, also known as the Tree of Life, is a symbol of strength, resilience and comfort. It is a source of food, water and shelter in the African Savannah regions. This is what we hope The Baobab on Lower Main will come to represent to all who visit us. We offer clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation aimed mainly at students, young professionals and backpackers. Internet, laundry, Satellite TV and all ensuite rooms on offer.

The Baobab on Lower Main is in Observatory, Cape Town. We are on a bustling corner of this historic suburb, surrounded by small businesses and private homes that are among the oldest buildings in South Africa.

We provide comfortable and affordable accommodation that is ideally located, close to the public transport network (walking distance to the train station, taxis, buses and Jammie Shuttle), and to the humming nightlife that characterises the area. Whether you need transport, groceries, take-out food, pubs, restaurants its all a short walk away.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Worst place we ever stayed. Payed 1200 ZAR for 3 single rooms, while we booked two twins. Rooms we very small, very dirty, my sheets were washed out and full with dirty spots. On New Year's Day cleaners were extremely noicy at 8 am and even put on very loud music. Bad location. We were told to get the car to the other side of the road, closer to the front door, because it was too dangerous to walk 20m with our bags.
We booked 4 nights, but left after one terrible night, we were lucky to find a fantastic guesthouse a bit further away in Blouberg, but with beautiful comfortable rooms, great service and even a good breakfast and always filled honesty bar. This place with way much more luxery costed us 1100 ZAR (inc breakfast!!) for 3 people. We also stayed at another beautiful guesthouse in Tamboerskloof on our first days which costed only 750 ZAR.
Conclusion, if you're travelling together, rather book a guesthouse instead of Baobab. It's cheaper, way more comfortable and especially CLEAN!
