I arrived in Hanoi at the end of February and it was a cold and rainy night and a very long trip from Canada. Green St. sent a cab for me and the night desk person stayed up until I was there and settled into a room. This was so welcome and their service made what could have been an exhausting experience - a decent one.
Unfortunately, it seems that singles do get somewhat discriminated against with hotel rooms in Vietnam in general. They think it is completely ok to disregard your booking and stick you in one of the not so great rooms with no window - just because you are either single or the last in the door that evening. If you have booked and paid for a room with a window etc., then you should get it and none of this - yes, tomorrow morning we will have one for you. I booked and paid for it for tonight. This was the only thing that happened at the Green St. that annoyed me. But it happened in other places too until I started emailing ahead and confirm that I had a room with a window etc.
Also, no elevator and so if you are in a room at the top, hope you are in good shape.
Seems most of the hotels in budget are like this though. Very tall and narrow buildings there. I didn't mind though - part of my exercise for the day. Came back to Canada in much better shape. Bonus.
Basic but ok breakfast in the morning. Good hot water. Good internet signal. Excellent location. Awesome staff - always happy to help and accommodate. My experience of most of the customer service staff that I encountered in Veitnam was that they were genuinely anxious to give you as much assistance as they could, were lovely, helpful, tried to use as much of their English as they could. Their effort and attitude was really commendable.
Green St. Hotel I would recommend without hesitation. It was spotlessly clean, basic but available hot water, good price, excellent location, staff that were willing to help out with the smallest request - just all around very good.

this hotel was adequate, the shower was a bit iffy the staff were more than helpful, booking ongoing accomodation for us aswell as trips and the open bus. the beds appeared to be damp but after speaking to other guests in other hotels it seemed to be the climate not the beds

Great location, reasonably good Internet connection (you don't find that everywhere in hotels in this price range!). Rooms are sober but clean enough. Ty to get a room that is not on the street side.
