Terrible bed bugs which scare us so much that we'd rather sleep on the City Hall grass patch.

Owner was very friendly, offering to take us out for BBQ and to the fish market. However, he did not tell us that the air con unit in our room was spoilt, and we only found out about that when we reached our room late at night. He had already retired for the night and so we were not able to do anything about it, suffering through the humid night with only one fan for 6 of us. When we asked him about it the next morning, all he could say was that he has tried calling the repairman but they were not able to come repair it. He should definitely have at least let us know about it before we moved in, even if nothing could be done about it. Also, the room's description was that it was ensuite, but we still had to use a common toilet along the hall, and at nights there were long queues for the one toilet on the entire floor, often only getting to take a shower in the wee hours of the night. The toilets in the entire house were not very well maintained and cleaned either, they were dirty and not comfortable to shower in. The hostel was also on top of a hill with a steep climb up to it. It was not easy to find the place when we first got there, and the taxi driver had to make numerous calls to the owner before we even found the place. Would not recommend staying here in the future.

Mr Kim and his wife are very helpful in planning your trip and offers good advice. Location is strategic and centralised, located at the base of Namsan mountain. Just 5-7 minutes walk from Hoehyeon station, Namdaemun and 10-15min walk to Myeong-dong (alternately subway station Meyong-dong is only one station away from Hoehyeon station). It is also near to airport transport services i.e A'rex train service at Seoul station and the airport limosine bus.

Stayed here for 2 nites. Kim's Myungdong Hostel is strategically located, within walking distance to major attractions. If you do not mind the walk uphill, Kim's place is near Seoul Station (which we felt was closer but would be difficult to describe Kim's location from there - so try it out yourself once you get the hang of the area) and Hoehyeon metro station.
Like many travellers like us, we were out most of the day - hence have minimal use of the facilities, but they looked well equipped (a home theater room, washing machine and dryer included). Kim and his wife are really friendly people who try best to please. He speaks basic English - thumbs up to him for trying his best to explain where are the best places to visit. He also gives good tips on how to save some money! We would have taken the express train to the airport, if he had not explained that we can take the commuter for only 1/3 of the price and endure just an additional 10 minutes ride.
His place is very near the N Seoul Tower. When we were up there - it was minus 2 degrees that night. But the view was breathe taking. So even when we had to walk back to the hostel after - it was only a quick 5 min walk! The electric blanket provided in the room was terrific to warm up after that cold nite.
If you need a basic place to rest the night, where it's clean with friendly faces - then we would recommend you stay at Kim's Myungdong Hostel.
Very friendly and helpful hosts. The rooms are clean, comfortable and the rates reasonable for a location very near central Seoul. Staying here also gives you the opportunity to meet and interact with other guests from different parts of the world.
Good location near to central Seoul, 5-10 minutes walk to Hoehyeon subway station and from there it's very easy and convenient to reach other places of interest. Namdaemun market is just across the street from the subway station and Myeong-dong, Seoul's main shopping district is only one stop away. N Seoul Tower is also nearby and accessible via the Namsan cable car (10am-11pm, ₩7500 round-trip, ₩6000 one way).
Other places of interest like Namsangol Hanok Village, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and Insadong Market are only 15-20 minutes away via subway.
I would definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Seoul and recommend this place to my friends
