The Coffee Palace is an institution when it comes to backpacker hostels in Melbourne. Famous for its Friday night BBQ's, Dress Up Karaoke nights, Bingo and Beer Pong. (We also play football at least twice a week!!) Located in the heart of St Kilda, the Coffee Palace offers the budget conscious traveller never ending memories. We insist that you must have loads of fun when staying at the Coffee Palace.
We cater for all types of travellers. We have 10 bed dorms all the way down to 4 bed dorms. (Ensuite dorms have just been renovated.) As well as providing female only dorms. For the quieter type or couples, we also have twin, single and doubles available.
Our rates are very reasonable, so as not to break the budget, therefor allowing you to get out and enjoy what this beautiful city has to offer. As well as spending some of your hard earned in our bar!! The bar is opened from 11am right through to 11pm. Our beer prices start at $3 a stubbie.
We are one of the longest serving hostels in Melbourne, (building over 120 years old!!) and have facilities that cater for all of you. We have our own kitchen for you to cook in, a great communal area for meeting like-minded travellers, a huge roof top, TV room with Foxtel, a games room and a travel shop so that you can organise the rest of your travel around Oz, as well as help you find work. Actually, there is no need to go anywhere. We have it all under the one roof!!
So if you are looking for a great time, a home away from home and enjoy good customer service, then you must not miss out on staying at the Coffee Palace.
Please note - as it is a very old building it can sometimes look untidy. We are conscious of this and have cleaners working from 7am through to midnight.

Upon arriving you'll think the same as me and many before me; a bit of a crazy maze with bathrooms dotted all over the place, outdated decor and certainly not a modern "flashpackers".
The facilities are adequate, a well equipped kitchen with large pots to encourage communal cooking. A medium sized tv room. A couple of fridges behind reception selling six packs of grog. Some ensuites, some double rooms but mostly 8-10 bed dorms. The stand out feature is the large lounge and dining area and the large rooftop garden- two great places for meeting people and sharing a beer (or two!)
Who wants a spotlessly clean flashpackers when you can have the atmosphere of this place? The staff will encourage you to get involved with the nightly activities (bingo, bbqs, fancy dress, movie nights, free nibbles) and are very knowledgable about St Kilda and Melbourne.
The guests are a mix between those that have been there for a while and work, those that are just passing through and those that have been there for a while, don't work and just can't leave because they're having the time of their life.
90% of reviews you'll read on this place are by people passing through for a night or two who have been unfortunate to find themselves in a noisy or untidy room. These things happen. But if the hostel was so bad why would half the people there be counting their time in months rather than days?
Oh and if you ever do leave the hostel, Melbourne is an amazing city!
