Cullinan Backpackers is situated in a stunning old mansion that conveys a homely feel, offering comfortable dorms with luxury bathrooms en-suite as well as on-suite doubles. Outside, our garden has plenty of space for you to nap in one of our hammocks, soak up some African sun or chill in our pool after a hard day of adventuring. At night our bar comes to life and it is the place to be for a chat with other interesting travelers, while you enjoy a beer/wine/shooter/scotch.

Why Cullinan?

Cullinan is a great base for exploring Johannesburg and Pretoria, somewhere to relax and acclimatise to our vibrant country before going off further into SA. Cullinan is a small rustic little town on the outskirts of Pretoria, where we still practice hospitality with a personal touch. This is also where the African Bush takes over from suburbia and you can still see most of the big 5 in our area. To give you the real feel of Africa, we offer bush-barbecues combined with stunning sun downer game-drives on our wildlife ranch. Here you will have your first close-up of African wildlife, you will see baboon, kudu, impala, zebra or even the very elusive leopard. Later after a bongo drum session, you will listen to the night life in the bush waking up as you sit around a campfire. Amazing experiences to be had, especially considering we are just over 30 minutes away from Johannesburg International! So, whether its a one night stopover before flying back home or onwards on your journey, or first base after arriving from which to explore, Cullinan Backpackers will really give you a sense of the heartbeat of Africa.

With our in-house adventure zone you will never have to sit around wondering what to try next. An amazing array of adventure awaits you, from Lion encounters (we figure why just look at them from afar if you can get right up close and touch them?), abseiling, horse safaris, game drives, bongo sessions, quad-bike trails, paintball war-games, bicycle hire, bass fishing, Soweto Tours and many other adventures.

On a practical note, we are close to the airport and in striking range of all JHB and Pretoria's sight & must-do activities. We are also equipped to help you arrange the rest of your Southern African journey, with expert advise on what to do and what not to miss. Cullinan Backpackers have 4 en-suite dorm rooms with two sleeping 6 and two sleeping 8 on comfortable bunk beds. We provide clean linen and every guests has a lockup cupboard to keep those valuables safe while you go off exploring.

Our two double rooms have two singles and a double bed respectively, both are en suite and offer privacy and comfort at very reasonable rates.

Rooms and communal areas have free wireless internet access so on a slow day you can even get all your FB friends up to date from the comfort of your bed/bar/bath or garden.

The kitchen is well equipped and large enough so you can prepare your own meal at any time. We also offer continental breakfast included in the price.

The communal area has a pool table, digital satellite tv, a book exchange, internet access point, a well stocked bar and comfortable couches and bean bags so you can really get into relaxing mode.

By car: From the N1 North, take the Zambesi exit and travel east to Cullinan, at the T-junction in town turn right and left at the four-way stop. We are the first house on the right.

From the airport: Take the R21 North, get onto the N1 and take the Zambesi exit and travel east to Cullinan, at the T-junction in town turn right and left at the four-way stop. We are the first house on the right.
