This is a Trusted Review. Why?

This is one of the best hostels I've stayed at for the main purposes of affordable accommodation that is clean and friendly. I also didn't want to stay in a noisy party hostel and this was perfect because the dorm is only 6 people, and it's located off the main street area in a garden type atmosphere so it was nice to even just hang out at the hostel. I never felt worried about things getting stolen, whereas at other party hostels there is more risk. It's also great that they have bikes right there, and they're on a street that connects right to the beach bike path. The location is good because it's actually nice to be in town and then be able to bike to the beach, though I suppose the other way around would be good too, so thus the 4 stars for that.

The staff is the best I've ever encountered at a Hostel. They are so kind, helpful and fun. If I go back to Tulum I would stay there and highly recommend this to anyone who doesn't want a party hostel.

The reason I gave it 4 stars on facilities is just because the beds aren't great, but really for a hostel they're pretty normal or even better than most. So really doesn't matter. All the rest is great for the fact that it's a Hostel and not an expensive Hotel.

Thanks to everyone at La Cigana!

Nobody knows it by the name "Marco Polo" (which is the diving shop in the building).
The real name is La Cigana", nobody knows it either, you have to say "near la Siesta" or "near the French Bakery le Bistro.

Best street to live in in downtown Tulum, not noisy because second block from main street, still close enough to bus station and in the area which is most alive in the evening ... that doesn't mean discos blaring.
Of course, living at the beach would have been lovely, but lonelier in the evenings and more expensive, even for a cabana. A taxi to the beach, which is not within walking distance (I mean 8 km on a jungle roadside) is around 50pesos for 10 mns.

A dorm, but also some beautiful clean rooms where we stayed, with private bathroom, ventilator, plenty of space and closets for everyone and nightlight.
Sometimes there's someone to cook a healthy breakfast, but plenty of places around if it's not open yet.
Lovely quiet garden.

Mixing hostel and hotel atmospheres, friendly helpful people speaking various languages.

Tulum is one of the last places where you can avoid the "Riviera Maya" but still enjoy beaches that are not overcrowded, lots of excursions around, Coba, Akumal, Gran Cenote, (see i-tours @ the crucero, crossroads, for Biosfera Siaan Kan). Tulum is a good place to start short trips from (Chichen Itza 2hrs30, Merida 4hrs, direct bus to airport 2hrs.

Sorry, couldn't find any drawbacks,
Sylvie, Paris, France

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

I am currently working outside Tulum and come into Tulum on weekends. I have tried a number of different hostels over the past few weeks, and walking into my room at Hostel Marcopolo Dive Tulum was like finding a little bit of paradise! I was staying in a private room, wtih bathroom en suite. The room is beautiful, very clean, spacious, the bed comfortable, the bathroom immaculate, the hot water shower works. The walled treed gardens give a cool breezy place to sit and just relax. As a small hostel it is also not noisy and loud, though there was a friendly group of travellers staying.

There is free wifi across the property, although it was a bit intermittent in my room (but no more so than any of the other hostels i have stayed in).

The hostel was marginally more expensive than the other places where i have stayed in a private room, but of so much better quality, that the 20 or so extra pesos that i payed for the room were more than worth it!

The location of the hostel is excellent. Located in central Tulum it is set two blocks off the main road, so is quieter than other places that are located on the main strip, but is within easy walking distance of everything you need.

The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. A plus is also that that the hostel is working at recycling glass, plastic etc. ... something that isn´t common in the hostels in the area.

My only criticisms are that there is nowhere to cook, but there are laundry facilities and fridge and washing up facilities.

If you are looking for a quiet beautiful place to stay, located in central Tulum, offering good value - this is the spot. I would definitely recommend it.
