Staying here was a nightmare!!!I don't need to say more then the fact that I ended up in ER cause of I was bitten all over my body by the flees that were in the mattress!!!But to give you a complete picture, let's start from the beginning - first of all, the hostel is for sure not licensed as there are no sings on any door (and that's probably why there is that comment of theirs that you should call them before arriving, because it's "difficult" to find them. I mean, how is one supposed to find them with no obvious sign at the entrance????and there is a sign for another hostel which is one floor above them!). second, there is no one at the reception - at any time!Guests are on their own all the time. All you have to do when you check out is to leave the key where they show you the first (and only) day you see them. Some of the rooms can't be locked on the inside!!!!And we were given of of those rooms at first. The guy who gave us the key acted surprised when we said that there's no lock on the inside, but, as he said, the more important thing was that we were able to lock it on the outside - with a tiny lock: the same kind you get when you buy a diary!!!!Eventually, he gave us another room, which hasn't been cleaned (for god knows how long!!!!) and he just took off the sheets from the first room and told us to put them on ourselves since he had to go (????). The sheets, by the way, are polyester and I didn't smell like smth that has been washed!I've read all the possible reviews before writing this, and all ppl complained that the bathrooms were now clean and that the door couldn't be locked but, believe me, the bathrooms are the best of all of it! Now imagine what the rooms are like! After I woke up after spending the first night there, I saw some red marks all over my hand, but I thought that was like a mosquito bite or whatever. The next day, the same marks appeared on my legs, and the next day on my face as well!!! And they all were all mostly located on the left side of my body (and that's how I sleep - on my left side!). I thought, at first, it was some kind of allergy to food or smth, but after I ended up seeing a doctor, I was told those were flee bites and that those kinds of flees can, unfortunately, be found at some of the hostels! I had to pay 167euros just to see a doctor, plus 10 more for the medications, plus that my whole memory of Lisbon will always be accompanied by this nasty experience I would never ever forget!!!!
This is a Trusted Review. Why?
This place offers very friendly and helpful staff and rooms are charmingly shabby chic. But make sure you don't get the room heading to the courtyard because it can be really noisy and dark all day. The building is incredible and the location not too far from the city centre. You need to take a bus or metro, though. Unfortunately, bathrooms and kitchen have their defects: usually showers and toilets are flooded because sewage is blocked and they could do with a deep cleaning. The kitchen can be used by everybody, which is nice, but could also be way cleaner. Still a good deal for staying in Lisbon.
