Good location, clean, and with lots of character. It has a beautiful roof top restaurant where they serve breakfast. Staff was verey helpful when my boyfriend was sick, and allowed us to stay well past check out time to allow him more time to rest. The only down side was that the room where we stayed was connected via the roof to the room next door, which meant we could hear all the noises coming from the neighbours bathroom - minor problem, but not very pleasant! Would def stay there again.

Delightful guest house! Giorgio at reception was so helpful, providing us with map, informing us where to go, suggesting where to eat etc. Rooms & facilities were tasteful & there was great attention to detail. Useful information was available in the rooms of places to visit, restaurants.
Pick-up from airport was already waiting & same good service provided when departing. Day of departure, we were able to enjoy the whole day, including boat trip to Prison Island knowing that our baggage was safe in Warere. We were even given towels & allowed to shower/ use facilities even though we were 'checked out'.
Would definitely recommend this romantic guest house. Loved it!
Thankyou for making our stay in Zanzibar totally amazing!

Having trawled through heaps of accommodation options for Stonetown , we managed to short list about 5 and so we took a gamble with the Warere Town House. I had a arranged with them by personal email, a transfer from the airport, which we paid when we got into the entrance Hall of the house. It was US $ 10 in January 2012. This tiny gem is unique and far more interesting than staying in , what might appear to be a top hotel , that doesn't end up giving you value for money or delivering the goods.
As an avid world traveller who has stayed in all types of budget accommodation, I was really happy here. First off, the staff were friendly and smiley in their welcome and seemed very relaxed. They didn't demand payment on arrival which I thought was very trusting. The decor is simple with some delightful artefacts displayed and traditional furniture neatly placed. It has this delicious Bohemian feel about it; beautiful odd tiles around a communal ceramic sink, and the high ceilings give this gracious air to the whole surroundings. The entrance hall is narrow with a notice board of what's on offer, ie transfers to other parts of the island or excursions maybe. Then you walk into this large high ceilinged reception room which has the large wooden staircase off it at the rear of the Town house. Each Floor replicates this room, and all the guest rooms are accessible from this large room. I think maybe there is 6 rooms on each floor, all of varying sizes.
The beds were large and comfortable and there was no issue with hot water, which is often all one really likes ( not needs ! ) The upstairs terrace is cute and shady for a lovely breakfast , inclusive of the price , so do accept this opportunity. There is a chill out sofa to read on too and I'm certain a bar fridge that serves cold drinks if you want to kick back above the roof tops. A great place for photos. We did inquire here about spice tours and decided , in good faith to accept the recommendation. It just sounded a bit too cheap at US $13 each ! We were collected and led through tiny alleyways and arrived around the corner within minutes. It seemed we waited for a while for the van to arrive, but that said , we had the most delightful tour of a spice farm with lunch included and a trip to the beach for an hours' swim ! It resulted in superb value for money. Maybe 10 of us in the van and an unforgettable experience.
The staff are so lovely here, so if you do end up finalising your bill on your departure date and it's early morning....then do attempt to have the correct money. Fortunately I did. But being a relatively small guest house I'm not sure they have massive petty cash flow that early. Wise to settle up the night before. A very comfortable stay that enhanced our trip.

My husband and I stayed at the Warere in Stone Town at the end of a safari in Kenya and Tanzania. It was a large room, clean, and had a balcony with beautiful flowers climbing over it with a view of their small front garden. It was literally a gem in the middle of chaotic roads. The front desk directed us on where to get cheap local food (a block away), how to walk down town (and get back again safely), and assured us we were safe - he was wonderful. Our only complaint was we weren't told how to make the toilet flush (believe me, this was not simple) or that we actually had air conditioning and how to turn it on. We spent a mostly sleepless night as the fan didn't blow through the side of the netting and it was very hot and muggy. When morning came I finally noticed an air conditioning machine behind and way above the bed. Damn, we are so-o-o Canadian. We had to leave for the airport before breakfast started so the front desk kindly made arrangements to have the cook arrive early for us. We would definitely recommend the Warere if staying in Stone Town.

The staff were really friendly and it's not too far from everything in Stone town at all.

Our stay was wonderful! The staff were incredibly helpful and made sure we got everything we wanted. When we first got there we asked about coffee, and along with recommendations for where to get great coffee, we were taken to a little coffee stand outside the hotel that sold these delicious things called kashata- it was awesome! The rooms were all different and beautiful. To top it off, the whole thing was decorated with antique furniture and ornaments from Zanzibar. If I went back again I would definitely stay there, no doubt about it!
