The Independente Hostel & Suites

*Check out our deals tab above! Dont miss out on our special offers!*

Originally built to become the Swiss ambassador official residence at the start of the previous century this period palace has now become your hostel!

Set in front of the city's most beautiful and nostalgic view point (Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara), in the heart of Bairro Alto, The Independente offers both the chance to stay in a premium location as well as the comfort sought after by any backpacker.

A restaurant, a bar, a guest's only lounge and a secluded beer garden where locals and travellers alike meet every day are part on the Independente experience. Everybody says that ff you want to know a city you must know its locals!

Four very special suites with private balconies which overlook the Tagus River and the St. George's Castle flatter the palace's existence and are secluded enough, with direct access by elevator, for a couple or a family to enjoy their privacy.

If that's not enough, our staff revisited most of the city's museums and hot spots to be sure of what they're talking about! Here you'll forget you even brought a guide book...

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The Independete is a wonderful old building with high ceilings and great atmosphere. You feel maybe more like entering a hotel rather than a hostel. We just stayed one night (6 bed dorm) and everything including the nice breakfast on the terrasse in the morning was totally worth comming! The bathrooms could have been more private but that's just a small side note. The hostel is located in front of an amazing lookout point where you can spend a nice evening. Or you can just go to nice little cafes and bars just around the corner.
