Grettir Guesthouse is a family run Guesthouse in the heart of Reykjavík. The charming wooden house was built in 1901 and has been home to a countless number of families. If it’s walls could speak they would have thousand tales to tell! Of course the house has been fully renovated and is equipped with all modern comforts.

With its central location, Grettir Guesthouse is within easy reach of most tourist attractions and business addresses in Reykjavik. Numeral attractions are within comfortable walking distance; coffee shops, theatres, cinemas, a swimming pool with Iceland’s famous “hot pots”, green areas like the old and beautiful Hljómskálagarður, the city pond, the sculpture garden Einarsgarður and Austurvöllur

Accommodation Information

At the Guesthouse Grettir we offer one family room for 4 adults, four double rooms of different sizes, and one single-occupancy room. Three of our double rooms can be converted to twin rooms on request. All rooms have a sink and wireless internet connection is available throughout the house. There is one shared bathroom in the house, located on the first floor. Guests enjoy access to a fully equipped kitchen. Tea / coffee is free of charge and breakfast is self service, consisting of cereal and milk.

Location Information

The most common and economical way of getting to Grettir from Keflavík international airport is to use the Flybus shuttle service. They depart from right outside the terminal at Keflavik Airport and will take you to Reykjavik in only 40 minutes. The Flybus is connected to all arriving and departing flights at Keflavik airport so there should be one waiting for you as you exit the international zone. Tickets for the Flybus are to be bought at their ticket booth, just by the right side exit, and cost 1950 isk. All the Flybus coaches offer wireless internet free of charge. For more information about the Flybus and tickets please visit the Flybus homepage!

The Flybus makes a final stop at BSI Bus Terminal in the center of Reykjavik and on foot Grettir is only some 20 minutes away. It is a short walk but as we assume guests will be carrying luggage we recommend bridging the short distance by taking one of the taxis that await outside the Bus Terminal.

The main entrance to Grettir is from Laugavegur 28A, in a small back house on Reykjavík’s main shopping street. The entrance to Grettir is through a gated underpass, right between the “Reykjavík Backpackers” hostel and “Eva”, a woman’s clothing store. Another landmark to look for is the hardware store “Brynja”, a beautiful old style timber house, painted a vibrant red. The gated underpass is locked at night, guests will receive a code for the gate when their booking is confirmed.

Grettir Guesthouse can arrange a private pick up at the airport. Please contact us at least 24 hours ahead of time if you ar
