Citadel Youth Hostel

It is a nice experience staying here. It is a very different hostel, like no other in the world. It is like living in those past years, in a cave. People are so nice, and it is easy to get around Israel.
I recommend this hostel to anyone who visits Israel.

WORD OF ADVICE :

BE WELL PREPARED :

israel is not a cheap city it costs a lot to do any thing for example the local bus fair is about 2$ a fast food meal is around 15$ a bottle of water at a chain super market is 1.5$ so build your trip based on true info for israel not the middle east countries or you will be disappointed thank you, with your support we can still go on as a cheap and comfortable place to stay at.. you understand that israel is as expensive as big cities in europe even more so to still have a place for as cheap as 9 euro per night is a dream to be true so thank you for working with us to still make it available option for those who want to travel just for the sake of traveling ......

Loved it. Basic accommodation but location perfect. Stayed 5 nights. Took our own tea and coffee and eat out alott. Had a great breakfast every morning at Christchurch guesthouse just around the corner for £8 (eat all you can) just book at the reception on your way up to the restaurant. The kitchen is basic but free. Came back one evening to find the kettle had been used to cook pasta in..priceless! Spent allot of time on the roof overlooking the old city. Stayed in room 8 en-suite just by the kitchen. Many of the reviewers complain about cleanliness however when we were there the communal bathrooms were being cleaned continually all day. Some of the decor is a little tired but you can overlook that for the price. The staff were very friendly and helpful and free computer access in the lobby. Fantastic place to explore Jerusalem from. Will stay there again for sure.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

Not recommended, we were asked to pay on arrival; went upstairs to the room where the dust was so thick that as the fan spun thick bits flew everywhere. WE left for another hotel.
They refused to refund any portion of the payment

Hostel full of character and great people. If you're after comfortable bathrooms it won't be for you, but otherwise enjoy the rooftop views and fun of this place

This is the worst place I've ever stayed while traveling in the Middle East. Expecting a well-maintained First World facilities in Israel, I was encounted with dirty and unhygienic kitchen, unfriendly staff with Third World Palestinian mentality. The only thing about this place is the location in the Old City, but this is not to say it is easy for backpackers to find and arrive. with a lot of stairs and hidden somewhere, traveling with any rolling bag is quiet a difficult task. Once you get in there, you might be greeted by a Third World Palestinian who claims to have spent time in the US and argues that they are doing a great job, getting the "Most Popular Award" from Hostelworld. This is FALSE INFO. This place is the worst as it doesn't have proper facilities to support travelers. People who booked a 19-bed mixed dorm are forced to sleep on the poor-maintained roof with laundries hanging out and dirty mattreses and smelly blankets that seemed to be never washed. Although there seems to be a good view of the city, some kindergarden kids right next might be staring you as you change your clothes or sleep. You have to deal with insects, too. There are people who got bitten by mosquitoes and also it was freaking cold at night. This is THE WORST, as there is no privcay, not enough space, and the most unfriendly staff I've ever seen. They will command you what to follow no matter what. You can not even change your place to sleep once they assing your place. I would never recommend such HOSTILE place towards backapckers. NEVER STAY HERE or you will regret with the worst nightmare in the MIddle East.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

First of all, we booked a room with a double bed but they gave us one with two twins. I accidentally booked 5 nights instead of 6 and it was actually very tough to get them to drop the last night. Not a very understanding or helpful group of hostel workers. The Wifi only worked downstairs due to the stone structure but that's being a bit high maintenance on my part. The best part of the place was the other travelers passing trough. It was a frustrating stay and if I were you I would scoop another hostel if possible or stay one night first to see if you like it. If you like loud calls to prayer mixed with the cries of a stray cat giving birth, this may be your heaven.

This is a Trusted Review. Why?

The place is wonderfull for the location in the old city.
Unfortunately it's not very clean but you have internet free and the staff is very kind. I suggest it for young people.
Besides the roof on the top under the moonlight is very nice!
