Good location, close to christian and armenian quarter. Close to some nice restaurants. Took some nice pictures from the balcony.
Linen was to small for the bed and was really really old. No plug close to the bed. No windows in room, so very stuffy. Remember to get towels at reception. Bathroom very small and without shower curtain.
Guy at reception very friendly.

Very good location of the hostel, really only 5 minutes from all the religious places.

It was December when I stayed there, so my room was very cold, as was most of the common rooms in the hostel. The hostel is very basic, with a shower that ran out of hot water, but accommodation in Israel is expensive so overall it wasn't so bad. And the staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is excellent, with an amazing view from my (cold) window.

We had a great time there! really central and the house itself is just great! very friendly as well!
Jaffa Gate Hostel is an interesting place to meet interesting people. If that is your goal and you do not care about comfort go there. If you care about comfort however go somewhere else since that is not on the menu. I and my partner went there on the high score on this site, because it's score was 91%. I think it might be spoofed because we were not the only one complaining. The owner does not rely care about the complains the hotel will be full only on its location which is great.
The downsides on the rooms I have seen are: the ventilation is poor, there are no windows (there is even a room behind the desk with no windows or openings to the open air), the showers are very dirty and you must hold the shower head up by hand (our shower sink had a thick brown layer on it an mold on the walls), there are no fans or airco in the rooms you can rent a fan for 25sheqel ($6.40) a day, at night there is no one at the desk so if a guest leaves the door open anyone can come in.
Positive points: The guests are very interesting people and the entrance is the living room with a TV which makes it easy to make contact with others. On the open on the first floor there are tables where you can sit. If you do not have a fridge tere is on the second floor a large fridge and cooking plate that can be used by anyone. I guess it is sometimes even used by people not staying at jaffa gate hostel.
