About Mount of Olives Hotel

A simple accommodation, in a homey atmosphere, at an outstanding value.

The Mount of Olives Hotel is an affordable family-run hotel situated at the summit of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, next door to the Chapel of Ascension. We are literally surrounded by famous churches and holy sites mentioned in the Bible including, among others, the Garden of Gethsemene, the Tomb of the Virgin Mary, the Church of all Nations, Dominus Flevit, and the Pater Noster (Lord's Prayer).

Our hotel commands a dramatic view of the Old City of Jerusalem and the magnificient Dome of the Rock. We are ideal for independent travellers, budget conscious pilgrims, Holy Land tour groups, and archaeological excursions.

Well, what can one say about this hotel? The first thing is DO NOT even think about staying at this hotel if you are physically infirm in any way, as it is at the top of a VERY steep hill and is not safe to walk after dark - this according to reception (there is a Palestinian bus service - No 75 that stops outside). The second thing is that it is quite a cheap place to stay, so don't expect luxury in any way because the rooms are adequate and in need of decorating. Also, you must bear in mind that sleep can be difficult because of the relentless call to prayer that happens at all hours and also barking dogs are a great nuisance. Having said that, there is always hot water and the beds are comfortable enough. The breakfast, which is included in room price, is a good buffet and there is complimentary coffee throughout the day, but they are always running out of milk, which is really annoying. The plus side about staying here is that the view when walking down the hill to the Old Town is amazing, but that doesn't make up for the unkempt and neglected area outside the hotel. Also be prepared to be overcharged in the shops next to the hotel, which says a lot about the locals' attitude towards tourists! However, all said, the hotel staff are friendly and helpful. I put up with my stay here because I am not too fussy, using it only as a base for seeing the amazing sights of Jerusalem. I must also mention that they are hopeless at replying to any emails you may send in advance of your stay. They ignored my simple question about airport transfers. It costs nothing to reply to an email.

My message to this hotel is - Pull your socks up and think more about your guests!!

You may read other reviews about this hotel but this is definitely the most accurate.

In august 2011, I stay one night in hotel Mount Olives. The hotel, staf and cleanliness was O K.
Good velue for you need for a stay. The overlook in evening of the old city was spectalular.
When you need a good friendly basic hotel out of the traffic noice from the city stay in Mount of Olives and enjoy the family atmosfer in East-Jerusalem,

My wife and I (both 60 years old) stayed for 3 nights recently at the Mount of Olives Hotel and highly recommend it. The room and building are a little spartan, but that's what we expected. The free internet, great shower pressure and decent mattresses were great. Service, staff and location were super! Use the cheap, easy local bus that stops out front and avoid the taxis who rip you off. The room cost was lower than any others we could find. We got great value. We have traveled to over 40 countries so we have lots of experiences! The only downside was the mosques calls to prayer, but you get that everywhere else too. This was budget travel done well.

Great location in Arabic Part of Jerusalem. You are literally on top of the mount of Olives so there's a great walk down to the Old City each morning.....

You can organise cheap tours from reception....

It's very cheap so don't expect 5 star but it does the job especially if your main focus is to see the main religious sites...

Make sure to get a Taxi number from reception....if you need a taxi back in the evening it can be very expensive because Jewish Taxi Drivers generally are reluctant to go into the Arabic side of town.....In fact, probably get an Arabic Taxi number before you go for the day of Arrival....alternatively you can get Arabic Taxis from Demascus gate (Old City)......

For the most part, I walked everywhere to avoid Taxis but I wasn't too keen on walking around after dark, I wouldn't think it is as safe as walking around the pedestrian zones of the new city....

All in all, good budget accomodation, very close to all Christian sites, great if your getting up early and returning before dark.....would stay again

I found the rooms quite stuffy, despite the fan which I kept on for the entire stay. However it just felt like the fan was circulating the hot air. I also had a few bugs in my room. The location of the hotel makes it very difficult to visit the Old city unless you want to walk back up a steep hill or pay for a taxi which can become very expensive. A very good location to visit the Mount of Olives though. Definitely think the next time I visit Jerusalem I will stay somewhere closer to the Jaffa gate. Staff were very accommodating and friendly.

This is a basic budget hotel. It is a bit tired and run down. The staff was very nice and helpful. The bed was comfortable, and with a fan the room was pleasant at night. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to sleep for a few nights, this will work. Do not expect many frills. The location is on the east side of the old city. It is more convenient to be on the west side. All in all, I paid very little and cannot complain.
