THE PLACE IS FABULOUS .... ATTENTION IS VERY GOOD and dedication by its owner ... THIS HOTEL IS VERY GOOD LOCATION WITH ALL IN FRONT OF THE OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM IN DAMASCUS, WITH ALL THE POWER AND EASE OF PARKING 24 HOURS. I thought that IS A VERY GOOD PRICE, ECONOMIC, AND ALWAYS THERE CAFE, TE, INTERNET FREE BREAKFAST AND GREAT CARE 24 HOUR .... I liked it and will come back again. I recommend it PERSONALS SON AND ALSO THE VERY KIND, ASK FOR ALEX AND Hatim.

DO NOT GO HERE! As someone who has used hostels and budget accomodations for over 20 years I have never encountered a situation like this. I had reserved a room on this site with a fixed price beforehand and after arriving was given a room for two nights. The night before leaving I went to pay for the room since I was leaving early. The manager/owner then said the price was for the hostel side and I was in the hotel side and would have to pay double even though I was given this room on arrival and the staff at the front desk was well aware of the price I was given over the internet. He then began to berate me in front of the other guests and staff attempting to get me to capitulate and pay more for the room. I refused and he began to threaten me and also to fire the employee that had given me the room in an attempt to make me feel guilty over the situation. He attempted to escalated the situation,however, I refused to capitulate to his tirade. I'm sure he has done this many times before and it has worked on younger travellers who may be intimidated. He also attempted to get me to give him my credit card in the attempt to intimidate me. In all my travels this is the first time I have felt physically unsafe in a hostel/hotel. This owner as far as I am concerned is unstable, and has underlying mental issues. Again, PLEASE take my advice, if you are considering this place. I am not even going to comment on the facilities since it is irrelevant when you are not safe in a place. Again,for all you younger travellers,please take my advice and find yourself another place to stay. I am going to post this on other sites in an attempt to warn other travellers. Rachel M, Tampa FL.

I just had a terrible stay at the New Palm Hostel.
The tiny room was dark, no window, dirty floor, dirty super-tiny bathroom, no blanket (it get's cold in Jerusalem in December).
Noise from the street and noise from within.
I decided to check out after one night, an action which caused the manager to show his real unpleasant and a bit violant side.
Location? - Yes, great location!!
Do yourself a favour and don't stay at the New Palm Hostel.

When one books a room at the New Palm Hostel one must be aware that the conditions are very humble. This is not in itself bad. The bed is comfortable and there is hot water. However, one may end up in a room with no window or closet.
One bad experience we had was the level of cleanness. There were long dark hairs in the bed, the bathroom had not been cleaned which was rather disappointing.
Besides those things, one positive thing is the location. It is just across the Damascus Gate and that is indeed great.
When checking out make sure you have your receipt sent to your email otherwise it may be complicated when you are paying. We had to spent quite a long time arguing how much we had to pay for our stay in the end they tried to cheat us first showing it would be 340 shekels on the calculator and then changing it to 380.

I guess for me, the cleanliness is most important, so that is why I give a high rating. The room was new and obviously they are working to make a nice place and improving it. It was very small...but great for the price. The shower was great...better than in our apt!

This property is ideally located just outside of the Damascus Gate. Alex and Hatim are honest, forthright, and very helpful and concerned that we felt comfortable during our 6 night stay. There are two computer stations with free internet as well as free Wifi. There is a kitchen and a large tea room with free tea and coffee. Guests can also enjoy a breezy outdoor patio area. All rooms in the new section have air-conditioning.

This is a hostel and expectations should be adjusted to this reality. No one makes up the room during the day. Towels and linen are provided, but not toiletries such as soap and shampoo. If the linen or towels need to be changed during the stay just bring the dirty ones to the front desk and ask for clean ones. There is no separate shower stall in the bathroom so some common sense in use should prevail: Shut the lid to the toilet to keep the seat dry; place items that should not get wet outside the bathroom; shut the door to the bathroom while showering to prevent flooding the room or possibly the hallway; use the floor squeegee when finished to eliminate puddles on the floor.

This property is constantly being improved. I would definitely consider staying here again.

The location is superb -- a stone's throw from Damascus Gate. I have an inner room without a view, but I have seen rooms where you can sit out on a balcony, looking out onto palm trees, green lawn, Damascus Gate and the wall and the street life in front of the hotel -- a very impressive view. The area is safe (women walk alone), surrounded by produce, grocery and all other stores and very close to the new city as well. Taxis are right outside the door.

The staff is friendly and very helpful. They also keep the place very clean. There is an old wing and a brand new one. The old wing has dormitory rooms. It also has a big sitting room with TV and free tea and coffee. There is another common room with 2 free computers with internet. Both common rooms have air conditioning and are very attractive, decorated in Arabic style.

I have been in a single room in the new wing for one week. This section was just reburbished. My room was sufficiently big, has a new double bed, air-conditioning and it's own new bathroom. All the rooms I have seen in the new wing are similar. Everything is very new and clean.

There is a common kitchen. There is a much bigger area in the new wing that will soon be a new kitchen.

In addition to the two common rooms I mentioned, there is a beautiful, big, common room in the new wing. Again, very attractively decorated in the Arabic style.
