When one books a room at the New Palm Hostel one must be aware that the conditions are very humble. This is not in itself bad. The bed is comfortable and there is hot water. However, one may end up in a room with no window or closet.
One bad experience we had was the level of cleanness. There were long dark hairs in the bed, the bathroom had not been cleaned which was rather disappointing.

When one books a room at the New Palm Hostel one must be aware that the conditions are very humble. This is not in itself bad. The bed is comfortable and there is hot water. However, one may end up in a room with no window or closet.
One bad experience we had was the level of cleanness. There were long dark hairs in the bed, the bathroom had not been cleaned which was rather disappointing.
Besides those things, one positive thing is the location. It is just across the Damascus Gate and that is indeed great.
When checking out make sure you have your receipt sent to your email otherwise it may be complicated when you are paying. We had to spent quite a long time arguing how much we had to pay for our stay in the end they tried to cheat us first showing it would be 340 shekels on the calculator and then changing it to 380.

I guess for me, the cleanliness is most important, so that is why I give a high rating. The room was new and obviously they are working to make a nice place and improving it. It was very small...but great for the price. The shower was great...better than in our apt!

This property is ideally located just outside of the Damascus Gate. Alex and Hatim are honest, forthright, and very helpful and concerned that we felt comfortable during our 6 night stay. There are two computer stations with free internet as well as free Wifi. There is a kitchen and a large tea room with free tea and coffee. Guests can also enjoy a breezy outdoor patio area. All rooms in the new section have air-conditioning.
This is a hostel and expectations should be adjusted to this reality. No one makes up the room during the day. Towels and linen are provided, but not toiletries such as soap and shampoo. If the linen or towels need to be changed during the stay just bring the dirty ones to the front desk and ask for clean ones. There is no separate shower stall in the bathroom so some common sense in use should prevail: Shut the lid to the toilet to keep the seat dry; place items that should not get wet outside the bathroom; shut the door to the bathroom while showering to prevent flooding the room or possibly the hallway; use the floor squeegee when finished to eliminate puddles on the floor.
This property is constantly being improved. I would definitely consider staying here again.

The location is superb -- a stone's throw from Damascus Gate. I have an inner room without a view, but I have seen rooms where you can sit out on a balcony, looking out onto palm trees, green lawn, Damascus Gate and the wall and the street life in front of the hotel -- a very impressive view. The area is safe (women walk alone), surrounded by produce, grocery and all other stores and very close to the new city as well. Taxis are right outside the door.
The staff is friendly and very helpful. They also keep the place very clean. There is an old wing and a brand new one. The old wing has dormitory rooms. It also has a big sitting room with TV and free tea and coffee. There is another common room with 2 free computers with internet. Both common rooms have air conditioning and are very attractive, decorated in Arabic style.
I have been in a single room in the new wing for one week. This section was just reburbished. My room was sufficiently big, has a new double bed, air-conditioning and it's own new bathroom. All the rooms I have seen in the new wing are similar. Everything is very new and clean.
There is a common kitchen. There is a much bigger area in the new wing that will soon be a new kitchen.
In addition to the two common rooms I mentioned, there is a beautiful, big, common room in the new wing. Again, very attractively decorated in the Arabic style.

I just have had a wonderful time in the New Palm Hostel. The owner, Ali, is a very nice guy who is able and willing to support travellers (arraging transport et cetera) and who is doing his very best to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Besides that, the location of the hostel is just awesome. Another thing I liked very much is the airconditioned lobby (or 'bar' as it is called) where one can just sit, read or, and that is the most pleasant, talk to other travellers (a mixture of all kinds of nationalities). If I am going to visit Jerusalem again - which is very likely - I will certainly stay in this hostel again.

it's raining in the room !

Hard to believe you can't be satisfied, free internet, free coffee and tea, a beautiful wood stove, close to the bus station, fruit shops, and the Damascus Gate. The manager was friendly, the cleaning lady never seemed to stop. It did leak in a few spots after a downpour, but no one really minded as it was exceptional weather.
But I won't be returning because of the relatives and friends of the manager, They took over the area round the fire, monopolised the TV and the Internet at times, and one night had a very loud argument that lasted for more than 90 minutes. Another night a dozen of them took over a table in the TV room for a meal and the rest of us were pushed to the back and were unable to hear the TV. I don't know who the owner is but many people commented negatively on the hostel being abused by these people. Why doesn't he entertain them in his home, not in his business
A great hotel in the heart of this, what is, the Holy City. Impeccable service where the staff awaits your evey needs. A most welcoming and attractive setting, the New Palm has experience professionals that exercises true feelings of hospitality with very comfortable rooms. For one's journey to Jerusalem, you don't have to look far for comfort.

From the airport you can take any bus that goes to the central bus station in Jerusalem then bus 6, 11 or 23.
