Close to the airport. 5-7mins walk to a megamall. Very safe & clean. Fast free wifi. Choice between a (very) simple western breakfast or homestyle-cooking from the mother (she's the soul of this Chinese-family!). Hendri the son and owner is super-supportive and has always good & value advices for ongoing travelplans. Came up with a handwritten lunchplan in a nearby local-eaterie. thumbs up & higher! Will definitely stay another night before leaving Indonesia from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

Very nice place to stay one night or two. Jakarta is not the place you would like to stay more time in anyway.

I occupied a big single air conditionned room on the last floor of that nice house, there was a wanderfull roof garden, a perfect place to chill out after a busy day in the city. the family is very friendly and helpful. They organised the rest of the holiday for me.

It's quite hard to find, but I finally got there and don't regret it at all!!!

Basic place but really recommend this place as the family running Hippo are really lovely and it is more a homestay than a hostel stay.
The owner family were very friendly, helpful and took great care of us. Even made the order ready for a lokal restaurant near by!!!
The traditional breakfast was very plenty and we really enjoyed the help regarding how to spend our week in Java and the last minute flight booking to achive the travellplan. Thanks 2 all of you!

About Hippo Homestay

We are a family home. 30 mins from the airport. 15 mins from the historic old town (Batavia). 40 mins from the city centre. Hippo is perfect for travellers who are in Jakarta for a short transit.

Hippo is for travellers who enjoy local experience. We are within walking distance to modern amenities such as restaurants and a large mall. Unlike the notorious Jalan Jaksa, our suburb/housing complex is in a safe, gated neighborhood. Please note that we are on the edge of the city (in North Jakarta, near the airport).

Accommodation Information

Hippo offers two large rooms: one single room with a shared bathroom, and one queen bedroom with an en suite bathroom.

Instructions in Indonesian (by taxi to Hippo from the airport or anywhere; to be shown to the taxi driver):

Menuju ke arah Pluit Village Mall (nama dulunya Megamall)

Putar ke belakang Pluit Village Mall (kompleks perumahan ada di belakang Mall)

Setelah melihat Mall di sebelah kanan, perhatikan di sebelah kiri ada Bank BII

Belok kiri masuk perumahan lewat jalan yang di antara Bank BII dan restaurant Bebek Goreng Bang Slamet

Ambil kartu di pos satpam

Terus lurus menuju perempatan terakhir dan belok kanan

Lewati pertigaan dan cari rumah pagar hijau no 37 di kanan

Instructions in English (by taxi to Hippo from the airport or anywhere):

Instruct the driver to go to Pluit Village Mall (or Megamall, as it used to be called)

Instruct the driver to go to the rear/opposite side of the mall

Enter the complex by turning left on BII bank (there's a big signage)

Ask the driver to get a card from the security at the complex gate

Go straight to the last intersection and turn right

Look for house no 37 with a green fence on your right
